At most I kinda enjoy Mordred, Kairi, Karna, Atalanta, and Achilles, but they end up being moved to the sidelines, while the other interesting characters die quickly or have little screentime.

Just no. Atalanta is one of the most boring, and the best scene Achilles had, which made me not hate him, was when he teased Semiramis. Which was the first time he did ANYTHING but be retard and fight. Karna has as much personality as fucking Sieg in Apoc, just with a somehow worse goal of just wanting to fight.
The only real likable characters in Apoc are Mordred's team and Chiron's team.

Kirito you can at least self relate with to some extend and his relationship and growth with Asuna is fun to watch (Its also fun seeing the writer of SAO slowly understand how to write and make a protag better). The newer SAO works also makes him a lot more likable like Ordinary scale, Progressive and Project Alicization.

Gudao is just a terribly written character with 0 direction in what he is supposed to do or be. There are so many situations that just make no sense and the growth that is supposed to be there feels too forces and sometimes even when there should be natural growth, it starts to get changed for the sake of the story.

You're absolutely right. Gudao is quite boring and bland, and is nothing more than a wish-fulfillment character for loser otaku self-insertion.

Chiron is probably the most sane, normal character in Apoc. He's usually the voice of reason, the one who can actually think. And that's a huge deal in Apoc, where no one else can do the same. When's he's on screen, Apoc is a lot more bearable. He even makes other characters act more in a more likable way by just being around, like the time he calms Jannu down from going on a screaming rant about Sieg-kun abusing his body. You might think a character that can remain calm and not shooting flashing lights is boring, I think it's a breath of fresh air.

Jeanne d'Arc is herself despicable in this show. Even fucking Fran is more likeable than Chiron, because she seems to actually have a character despite also being batshit insane. Chiron is nothing but the "sane" character, in a show where nothing is sane. You have Jack the Loli Stripper (actually an archwraith amalgam of a zillion unborn kids) fighting Jeanne d'Arc who's also in love with a homunculus brought back to life by Siegfried the Dragon Slayer's heart.

Age is power too though. Ishtar definitely isn't well known, for example. And Gilgamesh is like, he really *isn't* that well known.
