The game has had ups and downs. Hope of it becoming something great has been dead for years if you've had any sense.
Like, PS2 was fun on launch because of numbers and freshness, but it was also shit on launch. It was buggy as hell. Returning players from PS1 noticed how dumbed down everything was. It ran like a turtle on meth through molasses. Everyone fucking left after day one because they either couldn't play it or realized the grind ultimately wasn't worth it.
They improved the grind a little, made the game more stable, did a little bit of balancing (that might have fallen apart at this point I haven't played in a little while) made heavy less of a be-all end-all class, revamped every base to help curb vehicle shelling being literally unstoppable, among other things
it's just not really enough in the end for how shoddy the launch is and how unfortunately shallow they made the game at its core
