It probably depends on how many people were actually clearing D-3 and if they can just do a quick nerf like they did for the cranes event or not.

You can calculate the DPS yourself, it's just damage divided by speed.

Though since the actual firing rate is just an average of all AA guns across your fleet, it's possible that the pompom can come out on top if you put it on your best AA ship (particularly someone like aniki), and give everyone else bofors to increase your speed average.

I know the actual DPS value is higher. That's an enough enough calculation. But the question is whether that speed difference (retracting earlier guestimate, it's more like 1/7 of a second) is enough to even give you an extra shot on passing planes in most situations. I'd imagine it's not, so you're sacrificing damage for... a little bit of range that's probably going to get averaged down? Or what? That speed difference is probably going to get averaged down too. Just seems like a wonky tradeoff. The speed on Pompoms seems good enough that I would think you'd want the damage, just given the way that anti-air fires in bursts.

So I get the advantages that the Bofors has, but they don't seem practical in application.

I don't think it works to assume you'll only get X shots on passing planes, since there's way too much variation, depending on how your escort fleet moves, their range, the amount of planes, whether there's air strikes happening in quick succession, etc. Unless you're trying to calibrate around one specific scenario where you know exactly how much time you'll have within the range of the planes, it makes much more sense to me to simplify the problem by assuming more speed and range generally means more opportunities to deal damage.

I think it's safe to assume you can get two in most scenarios and very rarely three. They don't move slowly enough for that. I don't think switching from Pompoms to Bofors is going to net you a third shot either. There's variation, sure, but not much. I mean even if you started as far right as you can when the enemy carrier launches them and then drift left until they're off screen (assuming they don't die for the sake of argument), you'd be hard pressed to get a third unless you had AAs with ridiculously low per-shot speed.
