I am a masculine woman - one who is extremely uncomfortable with femininity - and it has cost me so much pain. The years of other women and girls telling me I'm ugly for my masculinity, undoing my worth based on the fact I hated wearing dresses, wearing makeup and generally appealing to beauty standards lead me to absolutely hate myself in every way. Everything and everyone told me women were supposed to be cute, and sweet and frail. And I wasn't any of that, and would never be. I couldn't be lovable or cool or gifted because of any of this. I was worthless.
I barely see myself in movies/tv, comics and much less, video games. The feminine woman is 99% of women, and I'm lucky to receive a badly portrayed stereotype - even if I can't really call that luck at all.
Moira is exactly like me. Zarya is what I aspire to be. Seeing these two characters torn apart to be another sexy feminine lady explicitly because they aren't what "women are supposed to be" literally makes me sick to my stomach. It's the attitude that gave me trauma over my discomfort. It might seem small, but after all these years it just adds to the pile.
