I don't know which Naruto games you are talking about but I had a lot of fun with Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 2 on GameCube like over 10 years ago. It was simple but precisely because of its simple easy controls it felt less random than many other fighting games and less likely to degenerate into mindless button mashing on a casual level.

I'm guessing that Mai is east Asian because blue hair is a stand-in for black hair (plus it looks black in the manga) and long straight black hair is normally found in Asian characters. Her hair is most similar to Litchi and Meifang who are of Chinese descent.
