What's the most optimal team I can make without using Ayer? I've tried my hardest, but really don't enjoy playing him.

He's pretty fun. I run Cog, Cock and Ayer and just make him punch himself once to break cap. Also, that team can survive for a long time.

What about Halle? She seems like even more problematic to play than Ayer. If you don't mind her Sieg/DLF/Halle is great, especially with atma sword.
Without Halle and Ayer you'll have problems with damage and double buffer seems like only reasonable option. DLF isn't that great without atma and when you play Ely, so you can try Sieg/Cog/Mahira. Keep in mind that Cog lose a lot in off ele fights, but her sustain is fantastic and Mahira need time to warm up, at least that's what I heard, because unluckyshitter will never roll her.
With other options Catherine isn't bad as Tezcat option, but she deal no damage and is unusable when opponent resist charm or entice. Also pray for Nemone buffs.

It took 6 months before I got my first light SSR and it was a backrow character. I didn't stop and still haven't. I like light.

I don't even have half a page of SSR characters yet. Doin what I can with what I've got.

That's nothing. Sophia was my first ssr and I went light, before realizing she's backrow only. I bought chev guns with renown, flbd 4 but then used 6 damabars on swords, and I still didn't get a second light ssr from gacha. I made song, 5*d her, managed to mvp baha HL a couple of times with 2sr and her. I had 5+ ssr for every element but I still didn't get a second light from gacha. After 16 months of playing I finally got a second one. It was Io, so now I have 2 healers for light. Am I the most cucked man alive?

Altair, Sieg, Silva and Ferry are great ssrs. You don't get to complain with half your gacha ssrs being usable. Over half since Lady Grey was probably starting ssr. Next you'll probably tell me you only have shiva, alexiel or europa as your good summon. You should have 0 usable summons that early in game.

I do realize that some of my SSRs are good/decent, sadly I still don't have a good grid or even magna summons for them, slowly but steadily getting my stuff there.

Slimeblasting is the best way, autism it non stop with exp buffs and weapons and you'll have your lvl100 5* in no time.
