If you want to advance at a proper pace in this game you have to get some meta heros/villains. Like the FAQ says, Sharon Rogers and Loki are pretty much a must.
If you want to whale a bit, Agent Venom, Spidey 2099 and Amora are really good. Also Spidey with his Homecoming uni is a beast.

Stat boosts, a bonus ability, and some unis also change up the characters' skills. Some unis are amazing and can make a character go from shit to great or OP to even MORE OP. Others are pretty much nothing more than stat boosts. A couple are actually a straight up downgrade (like Mordo's).

Ask here before getting one if you want to make sure it's worth the crystals.

No, Sharon (especially with her uni) is the best character you can pick for your first 6*. Some people just get really upset about Sharon because she's an OC for the game. It's important to follow your heart rather than be a meta-slave, but picking some meta picks up front will allow you to progress through the game quicker which means you'll be able to follow your heart sooner.

Nothing wrong with picking Sharon first and it's generally the recommended course of action. Grab her uni, get her to T2, and she can clear pretty much everything in the game with relative ease.

Yeah, but Thor's unworthy uni isn't his best, so it's left out. HoboFist and HoboSpider are better than their other unis by a wide margin.
