Are you trying to use it while making a new character? Because it won't let you. It has to be after the character was already made, so you need either a value pack active or to pay for an appearance change.

The game just needs better information about bosses. If you're cooking or processing you're gonna miss who spawned because of how much you're getting spammed with what you got. Or a way to find out if the boss is actually alive on your server because no one wants to bother with channel hopping. Also they need to stop spawning them in the middle of the night, I can never be bothered to go to them at 4 in the morning and waiting for half an hour before there's a group big enough to fight them.
