A champ is sort of a noob, someone in very non-optimal or mixed/matched gear, usually with bad or strange stats arising from inefficient training.
Pic related is an example - the player is using a leaf-bladed axe, which is worse than the sword, an amulet of strength instead of a glory or fury, torag's armor where he should be using a fighter torso and dragon legs, a combat bracelet where he should have barrows gloves, and an obsidian cape where he should have a fire cape.

Not really. Through non-slayer methods, there's blue/black dragons, goraks, and mithril dragons.

Melee is fine at low levels, but ranged (archery) is very very powerful at high levels, and you need it for lots of late-game stuff
