Threadly reminder that 4Kat is a damage dealing support designed to bind for Chain Fencer, and is not a damage dealer in their own right.

>no /sqg/

How is V? Worth it?

Better than 4 by far, and it's on par with the Untolds.

why did you contradict yourself right away

XD

It's by far the best EO mechanically. General opinion differs based on one's taste for oppai.

>How is V?
Varies depending on your personal taste, but for me it is far and away the best EO ever, even with its shortcomings. And believe me, as you play the game those shortcomings will become readily apparent.
>Worth it?
Dear god yes. It's the most fun I've had since Monster Hunter Generations released.

>liking gen

4U's poor roster and bad maps left a bad taste in my mouth.
>Everwoods desert area
Please don't ever.

Different user here, I also disliked MHGen because my weaponfu got completely trash hunter arts while everyone else had tons of fun with theirs.

This is Etriam Odisey Genelal, please keep discussion related to cute girls and squirrels. HA's made SA actually good, so I enjoy them. Death to Absolutes though.

>cute girls and squirrels
No dungeon discussion?
Is talking about being lost on 29F not allowed because there are no squirrels and there are no more cute girls to meet in space?

The two Absolutes were the ONLY usable hunter arts for HH in my opinion, shit sucks.
I hope MHW is kinder to my weaponfu.

user, it looks like flashy anime moves are gonna be the staple of the franchise now. and there's fuckall anime you can do with HH

it's done very much in the style of the old etrian but with new mechanics and QoL. if that sounds good go for it

Would you trust this alcaholic racoon to be your protector?

>mess around with citra
>load EOU2
>the title screen music

I almost cried why do I have so much nostalgia for 2, I didnt even finish it

>No dungeon discussion?
No, but you can complain about overpowered / underpowered class, or ask for input on your team for the tenth time.
I still can't get over how pathetic the HH Arts are.
In an otherwise exceptionally balanced game, how did they fuck that up so badly?

Just bought V are there any specific classes that might not be considered a good investment or are they any classes that I should just stay away from in general due to potentially being a poor class?

Nothing that severe no

also you can alter a character class at the cost of 5 levels so you wont be stuck with something you hate in any case

I love fencer-chan

harbinger can notably not fit into a number of comps, dragoon falls off around the 2/3rd mark, and some of the masteries (dodge fencer, healer botanist, shield dragoon in particular) definitely will not work in some parties. but overall teambuilding in V is pretty fluid and most classes work well together

Thanks for the solid advice, I was concerned how good teambuilding was in this one.

just make sure you have enough damage

that seems to be the main mistake people make, they end up worrying about wanting/needing so many different things and end up with only 1 character capable of actually ending fights

You should note that there's a big difference between a mediocre team and a terrible team. You have to go really, really, REALLY far out of your way to actually completely fuck yourself over. Like, a team of five glass cannons, or five healers, or five tanks.

But even then, the only classes in EOV that are glass cannons in either specs are backliners, and the most notorious glass cannon's alternative spec is actually really tanky.

Just about the only warnings I'd give are that Harbinger can be really difficult to use properly and they play more like a support than a damage dealer most of the time, and they come online really late, and Necromancers, Rovers and to a lesser extent Dragoons will compete for summon slots.

Yes.

Hey senpaitachi I need some nice high-res EO artwork that I can print out and frame but I can't find any
Some help would be appreciated

Hey thanks friend, I managed to find some decent stuff amidst the crappy dA-tier porn

megane gunner a shit

She's great but she has some tough competition

You all know the drill.

>Implying we even save pictures of sixth worth girl

She could have been even better...

Dumb Aussie 4t-chan

Is Fort-chan being 'strayan actually canon?
youtube.com/watch?v=vmL72sgVdAQ

What?! No!

What's fuckin' wrong with being Aussie, you cunt?

Getting real tempted into giving into the exp quest

dont do it senpai

Worth getting, not my favourite EO though. It doesn't feel like they got the balance with the new stat scale correct and some of the bosses are unreasonably difficult depending on your party composition.

why do you guys go for undubs?
is it because you're comfortable with listening to japanese voices, or is the english dub legitmately bad?

Conrad!

I always forget how sketchy the character art is in the early games. Jesus christ how horrifying.

>Veeky Forums inhabited by aussie shitposters

how do i select the different teach portraits in EOU2

Dont tell me they are dlc

>glassing kangeys in the bush
Nice attempt, but they're abbreviated to "roo" not "kangey".

They are DLC.

Getting a teach portrait that you can use on any class or race, that is a character from EO1,2.
How and why woulnt that be dlc?

>EO2U
>races

There are only a few tolerable female voices.
And I prefer Japanese babbling over English babbling.

They are free DLC.

Don't be mean. i'm stupid, and I can't read, apparently

I'll post some smug girls to spite you

How do you Necro? I've beaten the first two stratums with a nice balanced party and have been finding it pretty easy. Now is the time to magically book someone up to level 20 and endanger my balanced comp - but what the fuck do they actually do? One viable status effect, mediocre attacks, intermittent heals? Do they only exist for Zombie Powder abuse and Hell Slash?

...

thic nec

zombie powders really good just cause instant kill is a good thing to have

fierce shield can be good for blocking some specific stuff

theyve got great aoe poison, a good defense debuff, a good heal

depending on spec they can apply petrify better then anyone which is a great status to have in your bag of tricks

coffins seem to have more useful weapon skills then any other weapon type

Necros are largely a support class, with some exception for a Negative Energy / Wraith Explosion strategy. They're jacks of all trades, and masters of a few, too. They've got the most reliable source of Instant Death in the game and the most reliable source of Petrification in the game, in alternate specializations. They have damage mitigations that ranged from "exactly what I needed!" to "this does absolutely nothing", depending on the situation. They have the potential to offer powerful debuffs, status ailments and healing to your team comp, but suffer from overlap with other classes. They're similar to Harbingers, but more obtrusive to your team comp as well as more universally applicable.

So I honestly don't remember, in the original game did they have the level cap increased with each dragon kill?

Hmmm.
Initial experiments don't favour fierce shield - I guess Zombie Powder would change that, but I wanted to steer clear of game breaking and that seems like a skill you either don't use at all vs bosses or use to trivialise them.

Poison is a step up on my Harby, but then the Harby has a pile of other effects and the flexibility feels a lot better. I'd only really use Petrify in a big fight at that cost, but I can see how it's handy. The heal is nice too, but again expensive. It still feels like I must be missing something.

>last thread still hasn't reached bump limit 5 hours later
This is getting REALLY stupid, OP.

9999HP wraiths make for both incredibly bulky Fierce Shield tanks and for powerful Fair Trade fodder.

well you can use zombie powder on normal enemies for decent ghosts without making crazy ones

id only call it "cheese" if i was deliberately walking like 6+ floors to get specific ghosts, the ability is supposed to function as instant death->get a ghost

fierce shield can also be used for specific predictable attacks that the ghost simply had no chance of surviving but that get negated anyway

their healings actually really good too its just kinda weird, if you think of summon wraith+life exchange as a single "Bountiful Herb" it compares favorably to it in just about every way, the only downside being needing a wraith (but how often do you need a party heal more then 3 turns in a row?) and of course the risk of the wraiths just being killed outright by the aoe you wish to heal

EO had a hard cap of 70, no increase.
EOII had 70 and increased tha cap upon retire at 70 - to 71; for that character. Retiring at 71 would increase the cap to 72 and so on.
EOIII introduced cap increase through dragon kill.

Gates of Hell makes wraiths for you from damage, so a high-INT necro can make some meaty wraiths later. Also Reincarnation gives a chance for wraiths to come back.

>Refuse to give up in sixth stratum
>Refuse to play EO3 or U2 like I want to until I beat it
>Don't actually play any cause I know I can't beat star devourer anyway and the random encounters and teleports are just a gigantic pain
>dont want to level a warlock for invis cause its like giving up
>End of the long myth

>EO had a hard cap of 70, no increase
Oh okay. That seems fuck as all hell but okay. Post game is sure going to be a fun slog then

Hey guys is V good? I haven't picked it up because I wasn't super interested in any of the classes or portraits... or races. It seems like a good direction, just literally nothing really ticked my boxes.

Who are these people, and what game is it?

They're males from Etrian Odyssey 1 & 2

I like it although it definitely has its flaws.
Balancing is a bit scattered so depending on your party it can be rather easy or pretty hard.

I guess I'll keep thinking on it. Probably would pick it up if I saw it on sale or something though.

I finally hit the image limit on the last thread.

hey anons, i'm about to enter the world of EO by playing EOV on advanced difficulty since people recommend it for the true EO experience, which i don't know what that means yet.
here's my party that i plan on adventuring with, who should i look for my fifth party member?
rate my characters too i guess.

Get a Pug or Masurao. Therian.

More damage or some defense on your front line
Pug, Masu or Dragoon

Masurao should be a good fit.
Have fun, user.

Okay, looking at your team comp, you currently have:
Shit loads of magical damage mitigation.
Some form of physical mitigation.
Few debuffs.
Few buffs.
Aggressively mediocre single target damage.
Strong AoE.
Shit loads of healing.
Lots of healing and revival utility.

Your team is begging for either a Pugilist or a Masurao. I most strongly recommend a Therian Impact Pugilist, and to make your Fencer go Dodge.

last thread i asked for the worst team thats not like 5 brouni masuraos and someone posted

(Celestrian) Shield Dragoon, (Celestrian) Dodge Fencer, (Celestrian) Deathguard Reaper
(Therian) Evoker Necromancer, (Therian) Smoke Botanist

is this the pits or can someone do worse with 5 different classes and any races?

thanks anons, went with masurao because i forgot to add a therian to my team and i like their designs a little more than the pugillist, also realized my naming sense is probably off compared to normal people.

>few buffs
>few debuffs
i hope this doesn't fuck me over as badly as i think its gonna be like.
oh well, it's time to begin my journey of hopefully comfiness and guaranteed suffering now.

you cant have trhat many buffs or debuffs anyway, theres a limit of 3 on any character/enemy

just make sure you dont skillup weapon masteries and other purely passive increases too early

>my naming sense is probably off compared to normal people
Looks alright to me.
But this general said my names were 100% shit so I guess this wasn't a compliment

>I forgot to add a Therian
You can reclass at any time after the first floor.
>Will few buffs and debuffs fuck me over?
Probably not. Buffs and debuffs come into play when you're trying to squeeze out damage. Your team comp looks like the kind that'll have epic, 10+ turn struggles against bosses, compared to the 4-5 (or sometimes even 2-3) turn fights that a viciously min/maxed team would achieve.

>Gates of Hell
This I can see working. Shame it locks me out of the petrify tree, but that way she could really tank, albeit slowly if I'm relying on Sacrifice for boosts.

>healings
Like you say the AOE problem is real. Maybe I just need to pump all my points into the summoning mastery and hope they can survive if I debuff.

lmao fuckin casuals all of them

>my fencer, warlock and necromancer died to a flying squirrel and an acorn
what the fuck man
i did not expect the first two mobs in the forest to hit 30+ damage per attack

Welcome aboard

Squirrels are annoying little shits that are super dangerous early on. After you get a few levels under your belt as well as some money it gets less extreme.
The very early game in EO is often a bit of a torture so you learn as soon as possible that simply trading blows with enemies (as you so often do in RPGs) is not a good idea.

Still, I think squirrels are overtuned.

Yeah that's Etrian Odyssey. Welcome to the series.

>what the fuck man
ETRIAN ODYSSEY!

Spend your money on maxing out armour or die. Keep non melee characters out back. Get used to starting fights with the Fencer blind skill. See those Union Skills? Until you get something better you can use Double Attack to get a strong start against especially tough mobs

They just decided to powercreep the Great Lynx, that's all.

i want off this EO ride already.
never thought i would be getting my ass kicked by starting mobs, last time i felt like this was hunting the first yian kut ku in MHFU.
it's a good place to call it for today since it's pretty late here, thanks for helping me out on my start anons.

Veterans may becry it as cheap and/or too much effort, but the easiest way to lessen the first impact on a new EO game is creating a ton of units beside your party, to sell their starter equipment and deck out your entire party with the profits. Might take a bit of extra time, but lowers the odds of being out of gas and incredibly annoyed every 2-4 fights in the first hour(s) of the game.

You should move your warlock to the back line, enemies do half melee damage to the back of your party and they prefer to attack the front line. Otherwise she's going to die constantly.

>hating gen
What a faggot, bet you're one of those assholes pretending to like EO2

Nevermind I'm an idiot, she's in the front line there because your front line got wiped and the rows swapped

send help
no
why

>tfw still in the 2nd stratum
