I've always thought a character should be referred to by their name unless the situation directly calls for using an adjective. If you write things well then you shouldn't have to worry about identifying which character is speaking or being described.
If I had to pick one then I don't have too much issue with "punk" as long as it's not overused.

Why do so many people think Rachel can conjure fire? We've only seen her 'power' twice and it's with already lit flames. Her emotions seem like they can have an impact on the wind. It's what causes the fire to grow and what eventually results in the storm if that's what they're trying to hint at.
