/indie/ Indie and Misc. Games General

Sleepy edition

Previous thread >What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as A Hat in Time, Hollow Knight, RUINER, Cuphead, Heat Signature, Steamworld Dig 2, LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Rimworld, Age of Decadence, VA-11 HALL-A, Subnautica, Machinarium, DashBored, Darkwood, Card City Nights 2, Braid, Monolith, Rain World, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, West Of Loathing, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago and /jrpg/ is welcome.
A Hat In Time has its own general for the time being.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in Veeky Forums), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

How big does a studio have to be to not be indie anymore? Would Tripewire fit in here, or is it too big?

how often do you guys talk about rimworld?

>typical indie game talk
vocaroo.com/i/s0JskGxLlafx

It's one of the most talked about games here.

neato. thank you, user

What is the indie FOTM right now?

UnderRail

here we go again, doing the dirty work for Coretech. Carnifex will have to wait

What is your build, lad?

It looks a whole damn lot like Shadowrun for the SNES.

Unlike UnderRail that was a good game.

I always thought the Genesis version was better.

So what's the plan? Follow the main quest?

How would I go about pitching a game/series to a major company? There's a project I've been working on for a little over a year that includes a script and several sketch books.

Become a tranny and send in your CV.
If that's not an option you might as well give up, you are not getting in if you don't already have connections. And if you had them you wouldn't be asking.

What if I had a really impressive resume and/or degree?

AR / Sniper
Lets talk builds, then. By no means am I an expert on this game, its my first playthrough and I went in blind, I'll be honest tho and quickly read a thing or two about not fucking up your first character, but the only thing I learned from it was to put 7 point in Int because 'crafting is important', so I did, and then made my own build.
The thing is, the more I play the more I find that anything else but what I'm playing right now is subpar. I'm very tanky, I do an insane amount of damage. I really dont see the point of uniques most of the time, so far the only useful ones I find, and I'm not even using them, are the Jacknife and the Dragunov. I dont see the point either of inferior caliber weapons, everything except AR and sniper dont seem worth it. An AR burst is probably the highest single target potential, Snipers do crazy damage too. Why would I use some high end knife that requires 12 AP for a basic attack ? My AR is 16 and hits 10 times as hard, also has burst. I know melee has plenty of its own feats and further gear improve it, but even tho I really want to make another character, I fail to see how its going to be better than what I have right now, even if I understand the game better. So I'll probably go Psi.
Feel free to prove me wrong tho.

hey thats hilarious, I actually just took this screenshot before seeing yours.

Yes, Coretech lead me to Cornell, and he told me his side of the story. I want to track that cube since I managed to have a talk with the Faceless at Buzzer's, so I'm on the good path, I think. But I'm going to Tanner now to tell him about it, instead of going back to Simmons. I let Cornell go, seems to be an honest lad.

fuck me

Are you from California and can you suck cock really well?

btw are the Oligarch's quests the same, no matter who you choose to work for ? You need to track down the cube, so do you get to it by other means if you go with JKK or the Praetorians? I went to Coretech first since it was closest to the elevator.

oh and I forgot, not all uniques are bad. In fact the Steyr Auch is still way better than a very high quality 9mm Chimera.

The final two quests are basically the same, and Praetorian's warehouse quest is similar to Coretech's, but the first couple of quests are completely different for every faction, and JKK and Praetorian both have a quest in areas that are faction-locked.

You might be able to pitch it if you have a very fleshed out setting with most of the writing and game design work done, but they'd probably just hire you to help make their setting instead of using yours.

>he didn't kill the acid hunters
If there are any NPCs in the game that deserve death, it's them.

Not that guy but, yes, I can suck cock great. I love it.

alright.
Nice music in there.

Get yourself a gas mask for when you need to go through toxic gas.

yeah I have enough drugs I guess.
I want to go back to Tanner before Simmons again, not sure if it will actually do anything ?

Not really. Do visit Tanner after talking to Simmons though.

A bit of random thoughts. So i play Detention few days ago. It was amazing expirience. The only complains i have game is too short and they use sick post-rock only for promotion trailer. Especially after letdown that was Downfall remake and Tokyo Dark. Personnaly i say it's even better tha Cat Lady. Just weird to not see any mentions anywhere or i miss all the fun?

...

AR tanks make for solid noob builds, but they aren't particularly powerful compared to most others. And they're probably the dullest build to play.

>An AR burst is probably the highest single target potential
lol not even close. Theoretically speaking nothing can come close to the damage potential of eviscerate. But in practice pistols, sniper rifles and psychosis psi have way higher single target damage potential than assault rifle bursts. ARs are also far weaker than SMGs in terms of damage per AP.

>Why would I use some high end knife that requires 12 AP for a basic attack ? My AR is 16 and hits 10 times as hard
No it fucking doesn't. Base damage of ARs is more like 2 times that of knives and light weapons get AP cost bonus from dex, they end up having similar damage per AP.

/indie/ is immortal

Alright. I knew something was up with those guys. Looking like Jedi knights when everyone is either a hobo or wearing steel armor is a quite something.
I went back up the biocorp facility after finding the keycard to open that 100 lock room, so its pretty much confirmed they were all about experimenting things on people. The tchortists are a remnant of biocorp who injected themselves their own stuff to gain superpowers while the aliens are trying their best to not kill people while tracking the cube. I still like the game but its dragging on a bit too much in Core City. I also explored the tunnels more, killed some lurkers members and tried to memorize it, level design is really good, being able to go from under Core City to Railroad, then junkyard and SGS on foot is nice. I also found Foundry while exploring.

What about that feat that gives you a 3 hit burst for 180% AP ? I didnt take it yet since others feats were juicier but I'm considering it more and more now that I'm wasting bullets most of the time when bursting with 7 W2C bullets.

holy shit its christmas already
not that I need any of that though

The Rain World 1.5 beta is pretty great so far. Hardcore mode is amazing! I can't tell how long it's been since I last made it to the shelter after the rain started falling.

I'm tired of devs falling to the cuckoldry dark side

So did they fix anything about this busted-ass game or just appeal more to the le hardcore crowd?

What do you find the most exciting to play as ?
I saw some really nice energy pistols with 3 damage types, but they also eat up energy unlike anything else. I wonder how a typical fight goes with it, I can see why my AR guy is dull now. But I still like it.

>ARs are also far weaker than SMGs in terms of damage per AP.
how so ? I'm 1 point away from level 16 and I didnt see any SMG close to having enough damage to justify using one instead of an AR. I have the Steyr since level 10 I believe. I could tho, since they use the same feats as well as burst. It probably requires a different setup regarding movement and gear tho. I typically never move in fights.

They added both an easy mode and an hardcore mode. I believe easy mode removes karma gate requirements and reduces the amount of food you need to hibernate, so it's perfect for scrubs of all kinds.

I for one prefer having the ability to wear a spare spear on my back and devour the lizards I kill.

Up to you, but remember that rapid fire won't trigger burst feats like commando, concentrated fire or full-auto.

And now you're starting to see the weakness of ARs. All they get is expensive overkill bursts, not much control over your damage. Over all, SMGs are more practical since spec ops burst costs only 200% AP rather than 300% and SMG AP costs are much lower to begin with.

>I for one prefer having the ability to wear a spare spear on my back and devour the lizards I kill.
So features that should've been in the game in the first place. Wow, amazing.

why would they fix anything in a game that's got 91% positive reviews on Steam? only butt-blasted "game" journalists disliked the game.

???

These features are exclusive to hardcore mode.

>le hardcore crowd
old /v/ is rolling around in his grave.

It's not called hardcore mode but whatever helps you convince yourself you're cool.

Old /v/ was capable of discerning between well designed difficulty and pointlessly punishing bullshit, actually.

thanks for nothing
I guess thats the money sink.

>argumentum ad steam rating
lmao nigga

Journalists fucking loved Rainworld, just like the rest of the casual plebs who judge their games purely on aesthetics and atmosphere.

so they're adding some basic features and fixes to the game that should've been there from the start... but split into two different difficulties?

what the FUCK

get wrecked casual

Yup. The house is great if your crafting skills need some boost, but pretty pointless otherwise. A long time ago Styg talked about expanding on it and making it more meaningful, but that was a long time ago, before the expansion was even announced. So who knows if that's still part of the plan, although the experimental patch kind of hinted that it still is. But you know, that was also a long time ago, so yeah.

wut

Journalists need to be thrown from rooftops.

What are those square boxes around certain items? I've never seen that before.

Stuff unlocked with mercantile.

how do I start building ? I was pissed off so I told morgan to just hand me the keys and gtfo.

I'm playing minecraft too. Its really cool, the game surprises me all the time. But I should probably go back and buy one of those cages to bring a borer to Quinton.

The building in the middle of that map is the housing corporation, just talk to the guy there. But I wouldn't start pissing away cash just yet.

Take one of those blades too.

underrail isnt the twitch list of games, what the fuck
everyone make that joke but it really is underrated

I'm at 8k is that low?
I'm buying tungsten gear sometimes, just to disassemble, get the tungsten and craft w2c bullets. I'm literally made of money.

Anyone here play banished? I'm using the colonial charter + mega mod but something really annoying is happening.

My population just all starved to death even though they have 10k+ vegetables in markets and storehouses. They just refuse to eat them.

>I'm at 8k is that low?
It's enough if you ignore the money sinks, but super steel is expensive stuff.

kek

This is what happens when you don't teach your kids to eat their vegetables.

Where are you, Expedition soon user? You'd let this thread die too? Shame on you.

/indie/ is going to go apeshit whenever Expedition is actually released.

Spoilers will be a problem though. Most of us will roll a new character and go through the game again, but even with experience it'll take time to catch up to those who'll load a mid/end game save.

I'm really tempted to go for a high dex character right now. Knives, fists, throwing knives,, high movement, stealth...advices ?

What are your favorite indie web games?

rate my lightning berserker sledgehammer build
10 str
3 dex
10 agi
5 con
3 per
3 wil
6 int

max melee, dodge, evasion, hacking, lockpicking, mechanics, electronics, and tailoring

feats: sprint, nimble

basically you have lots of MP and can get even more with sprint or other feats and then use Blitz so they all become AP and you can bonk everyone. very feat rich but not super powerful. get str every chance except maybe int once for skinner.

Knife, fist, throwing knives and mobility? How are you going to support all of that with feats?

I dont know about feats, but I guess my idea is a high strenght and dex character. dont know if its feasible

Are you sure you don't want to take Biology? Psykers are going to have a field day against you. Shield and evasion aren't going to save your ass against mindfuck, but Bullhead would. Also useful against those damn crossbow fags and their stun bolts. Evasion helps, but they are still going to get some of those in. Jumping Bean is always a good idea for D/E boosting too.

yeah that's true. i suppose i could drop a lot of dodge for it?

Nah, I don't think that's necessary, you have room for Bio. Take out 10-15 points from every other crafting skill, and about 35-40 from Hacking. Let synergy with Electronics take care of that.

I mean, agility/strength/dexterity is definitely feasible, but everything you mentioned rely on long lists of feats to shine. I would at least drop either knife or fist, at least in terms of feats. Stick with one or the other, and have throwing knives support it with at least Hypertoxicity and Pinning.

Why is Rimworld such fun

No major company will even bother looking at a rando's pitch or design document for a game. You have to have a prototype or vertical slice at least, but either way its more than likely theyd steal your idea, even if you were a full size independent developer like High Voltage Software.

picky eaters btfo

Killing Floor 2 is ass
Rising Storm 2 is also shit, dont be fooled by the new update, the aussie map is cancer

>colonist has a mental break
>tantrum
>Figure whatever, They're usually not worth a damn
>colonist runs to a turret
>beats the fuck out of it
>turret explodes
>he dies.

I don't know what I was expecting.

Is this the place to discuss E.Y.E and E.Y.E accessories?

Go ahead, your legs are ok here.

Let your E.Y.E. discussion be freed as a geyser from its earthly mantle.

How do I enjoy Stardew Valley?

>Heys guys is this where we discuss [x]?
>Yeah?
>[doesn't discuss [x]]
Every fucking time.

Make goals, work towards them, and be okay with failing because you don't know shit. Just like real life.

True.
SO FUCKING TRUE.

Sorry, whether it's modded or not, I have no idea what might cause this. Can that house access the storehouse? Do they have someone free to get food? Does that guy work too far?

Because it's like Dwarf Fortress, but playable without learning to read the matrix.
I remember being amazed when I discovered you could right click on items to pick a different material for them. Who wants a room made out of gold?

How much of a casual babby you have to be if ASCII graphics intimidate you that badly? Have you really not played any real roguelikes? Poor guy, you're missing a lot.

>being able to understand why people don't like Dwarf Fortress means I'm one of them
I pity the sociopath who is unable to understand why someone else would feel differently about things or why someone wouldn't immediately blame another person for liking a lite version of a game.

>But in practice pistols, sniper rifles and psychosis psi have way higher single target damage potential than assault rifle bursts.

What makes pistols do so much damage? I've been mainly using an amplified plasma pistol and frying stuff with aimed shot, but regular firearm pistols seemed kind of crappy so I switched to plasma as soon as I could.

>I wonder how a typical fight goes with it, I can see why my AR guy is dull now.

I turn on my night vision goggles, and use aimed shot at the baddie. If I miss, I use knee shot and take potshots at the guy chasing me until I can use aimed shot again (but I got a pretty good crit chance, so sometimes I fry him with the kneeshot anyways.)

If there is a crowd of guys, I usually toss a grenade and pick off the survivors.

I got enough AP for an extra shot, and I was thinking of getting opportunist so I can get an SMG on my offhand, use kneeshot on an enemy, and then use the aimed shot on the baddie for even more damage.

I want to get the cheevo for using execute on 10 human enemies, and I need to get opportunist to get execute anyways.

I got to try that in my next run, i never used it, and it's a pain in the ass trying to find good crafting materials and I figure mercantile might let me get access to better crafting items without needing the planets to align beforehand.

Why so mad? It was reasonable assumption given the situation. Being amazed by discovering how to use basic Rimworld UI features makes one think the poster must be a genuine retard.

youtu.be/PfUOkJ_eqrY

When will you make a "recluse finally admit he's a little bitch and kills himself live" video?

>What makes pistols do so much damage?
Execute crits.

> I didnt see any SMG close to having enough damage to justify using one instead of an AR.
SMGs have an inherently lower AP cost, get an AP reduction from DEX on top of that and there's a feat that lowers SMG burst cost from 300% to only 200% AP.

It's possible to shoot 90+ bullets in a single turn with SMGs with the right build. Not optimal, but it's possible.

i'm pretty sure shooting 90 bullets is always optimal, regardless of whether it does more damage

>Why would I use some high end knife that requires 12 AP for a basic attack ?
Other than what said, you also need to keep in mind knives are completly silent while ARs and sniper rifles are among the loudest.

Being able to kill individual enemies or small groups without attracting other groups on the map can make certain fights significantly easier. Multiple fights against 1-3 enemies at a time are easier than a single fight with a dozen of them.

Sniper rifles can get around this to a degree thanks to their range and ability to kill enemies with 1 shot, it's pretty easy to pick off individual enemies or small groups in a single turn from long range and retreat behind cover before other enemies come to investigate. ARs can't do that as easily.
