If you're using a 75mm then you have to use APCR, even shooting their sides with normal shot is risky if they are at an angle. Try shooting their cannon a couple of times with APHE if you get stuck in a slug fest with one. Gives you more time and cuts down on risk massively.

76mm should be able to go through their front plate and cause significant damage as long as they are not heavily angled.

DO NOT angle your jumbo more than a few degrees, and if you are higher elevation they may be able to meme you by shooting your tracks and bouncing up into the crew compartment. If it hasn't happened to you yet, it will eventually, and you will either laugh or cry
