Best ways to optimize TLD for a toaster PC? I'm running on a $100 piece of shit from a pawn shop until I can budget in some serious solder work on my main rig. Get fine framerates, but I'd like to find ways to shorten loading times and reduce the occasional (20-30 minutes apart) lockups early in a playthrough.

Any tips to make at least a small difference?

Except TLD is actually good.

-noprefetch can do both, at the cost of additional in-game stuttering, assuming your 20-30 minute crashes are memory related.

It's not actually crashes. Just a 5-10 second long stutter, and then things run at a playable level for that period before it does it again.

That's way longer that the delays caused by alife being switched on. Sounds like a system issue. Disable all non-essential services and background processes, and see what happens.

On a another note, why is the sound mixing so bad in CoP?
Like, the music, ppl talking and animal sounds are loud as fuck but I can barely hear my footsteps, the detector sounds bugs like hell if I'm searching for artifacts near abnormalities and gun sounds like reloading etc, sometimes don't even load at all? Also the shotguns sounds are muffled as fuck.

Can this be related to Absolute Nature 3? I have no other mods running that would conflict (only using a hud mod and the sounds where like this even before installing it).

I've disabled EAX and messed with volume sliders but there was no difference.

Fucking hell.

What should I play then?

I never really found a way-to-go CoP mod like I did on SoC.

AI merge mod 20150 or Misery 2.2?

More inclined towards the first, considering my rig is probably to shitty to properly handle Misery.

Both pretty boring choices, but at least AI Merge isn't actual garbage.

No you don't, as long as the game doesn't crash it saves just fine.

Anyone having issues with displaced death moans in TLD? Every time I ace a cyka it sounds like they're bleeding out right behind me even though they're 50m out.

It depends on what you want in a mod. I am playing Last Day right now and while it's a pain I really enjoy the almost simulation aspect of it. I find myself generating a routine and actually planning routes according to my looting and quests in order to maximize energy usage. Fucked myself over last night and travelled Garbage as Military. Ran out of ammo and first aid. Had to sneak my way through bandit camps and mutant spawns.made it to Rostok to get ambushed by loners and cleared the Duty camp of them. So much loot.

Yes but that is actually "difficult", while Misery is pretty much "artificially difficult" with its guns breaking after like 2 magazines (so realistic, that is why everyone uses guns in war and waits for the enemy to empty 2 mags), guns and repairs costing more than a KrAZ cheap car irl, people paying you shit all for everything and the player needing more food than a 180 kg pig to increase his weight.
I love many of the aspects that misery adds, as well of much of the stuff it adds but seriously the balance in that mod is fucked. Farm in your starting zone for at least 8 hours and then rush the rest of the game in 30 minutes is not a fun story and/or concept.

Playing Last Day by the way. Also any tips for dealing with Chimera?

I will agree the economy is extremely tilted against the player. That's why I use easier economy for Last Day, cheaper ammo, and traders buy broken weapons. I have thought about changing weapon and repair prices...repair kits are ridiculously expensive for sure. It takes some tweaking but to call Misery or LD garbage is a bit unfair. It needs some tweaking to be truly fun but once you get it to your liking, it really is the most immersive and engaging mod. It's the only one I have actually decided to play entirely without a HUD. Feels good RPing my characters actions and ideas based on the morality and background I pulled out of my ass. Military player I am using right now I may turn into a rogue soldier who destroys their camp at Agroprom. Not sure yet. We will have to see how shit unfolds.

I'm not really liking it, at all. 70k for a Snowflake seems unreasonable, even with Last Day's imbalanced economy. What line would I need to edit to bring back the original artifact sell prices, or at least make 10-20k?

Yeah as I said, there is a lot about Misery (can't judge Last Day as I did not play but plan to) that is likeable and even loveable but there is much more which fucks it over. One can do the changes themself but it takes at least 2 hours, if you're confident with using LUA+know what you do.
