Homosexuality and betrayal being connected to each other is a pretty common theme in Digimon. It's not just limited to wolf digimon, or even digimon and their partners in more recent series. I suppose if a person is willing to betray their species for lust it makes sense that they'd be willing to betray their friends for something equally petty.
