He died to become a meme.

You get the fuck out. You get the fuck out right now. To answer OP, no. Rioters got sat the fuck down by the government.

I never got the full story on this picture. Did the tanks stop because of him or was the picture taken right before they ran him over or drove around him?

they stopped.

Why don't you Google it?

>In Tom Clancy's 2001 novel The Bear and the Dragon, the Chinese authorities apprehend and execute Tank Man, then bill the surviving family for the cost of the pistol round expended to shoot him in the back of the head.

He made China great again

Helped force Deng's hand prematurely which caused him to choose the hardline over the gradual democratization he wanted.

This is only an iconic insane in the West. In China the whole thing was censored so much people don't even know it happened.

As for that guy, he's unknown. But no, he didn't get run over right then.

Did he died?

I thought he was ran over???

>You will never see a democratic, liberal China in your lifetime.

>You will never see a democratic, liberal China in your lifetime.
Hopefully never.

You might. It's noticeably more liberal and democratic than it was a decade ago, to say nothing of two. There probably won't be any single dramatic event that marks the beginning of TWUE FWEEDOM IN CHINA because so long as the economy keeps improving nobody really wants to rock the boat that much, but in a few decades the situation in the whole country might resemble Singapore's -- i.e. quite socially conservative by western norms, but with free elections and with people more or less allowed to say what they want, so long as they're careful about HOW they say it.

I doubt it.

There are too many people with prerogatives that would be threatened by such a change.

I love how the west managed to spin Tienanmen square as some 1776 freedom revolution when in reality one of the things it was against was China's liberal reforms.

This
Lads they were hardcore Maoists

It'll take a few decades, definitely. But that's how countries often liberalize. The old guard rotates out, new blood cycles in, and as they have less to lose they're more willing to implement reforms. That's exactly how Taiwan went democratic, and it happened very smoothly (South Korea and Indonesia underwent a similar process, but much less smoothly, in the face of massive protests -- but no real bloodshed). Granted, China's no Taiwan, it's much bigger and still much less developed, but it's at least thinkable something similar might happen there -- not now but in a few decades. Not a certainty, but it's thinkable. They're experimenting with limited reforms even now.

>but with free elections and with people more or less allowed to say what they want, so long as they're careful about HOW they say it.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

t.Singaporean

nah he just lost his shopping

Singapore has the same government for the past 50 years. That Lee Kuan Yew dick must be tasty.

He was the Harambe of his generation

>He thinks China is an autocracy.
>He thinks the Chinese people do not get a say in their government.
>He thinks democratic populism is fucking good

He wasn't, although other protestors reportedly were.

Tank man only vanished into thin air, as dissenters generally do in commie states

Do you really want 2 billion soulless drones to have that much freedom?

>He thinks China is an autocracy.

I'm well aware that China hasn't been a true dictatorship since Lmao Zedong died, im not sure how a one-party oligarchy is better though.

>He thinks the Chinese people do not get a say in their government.

I'm sure local/regional government has a say politics, but a responsible government doesn't blatantly massacre political dissidents, and put orwellian restrictions on information and media.

>He thinks democratic populism is good

Nice b8

>amerilards actually think these protests were about free dumbs and not about a return to hardline Maoism

kek

so I told dean to stand in front of a line of tanks... he actually did it, the absolute madman! hahahahaha

But the soulless Americans already do.

Go run over some more toddlers, chink

Based Yellow Smiling Man.

He became a living meme

>then bill the surviving family for the cost of the pistol round expended to shoot him in the back of the head.

That actually happened to one Chinese dissident, but it was during the Cultural Revolution.

t.自干五

Tom Clancy is a true American hero.

He's a one man cold-war propaganda machine that kept up his crusade against enemies of America until his dying day.

Tankman survived.

According to the grapevine within the PLA, he climbed onto the tank, yelling at the captain "What are you doing?! They are your people too!" and then he was fetched by a buddy and they both ran away.

Tienanmen was one of the most critical moments in China's history. Not only did it severely weaken Deng Xiaoping's formal political standing in China, but it also cemented China's push to economic liberalisation, its authoritarianism and its complete anxiousness about how it controls its people.

It learnt that if students and workers ever got together in protest that it would ultimately lose its legitimacy as the protector of these two segments of society and would have a much tougher task in breaking up the protests. That's why China as 180,000 protests a year and yet only breaks apart the ones that have both worker and student participation.

Secondly, it realised that elite defection to the protest would spell absolute disaster. Zhao Ziyang became very sympathetic to the protests and offered his services to it. Now the CCP tries very hard to break up factions within its party though the current Tuanpai vs. Princeling tension could spell trouble for the CCP.

Thirdly, the CCP had to find a new source of legitimacy. It couldn't just promote the equal treatment of all Chinese, that had led to this protest when things turned economically sour for some Chinese due to Deng's reforms. Thus, the CCP looked to promote itself as the most capable force in China to run the economy and to protect its international security.

I don't get why people like you are so mad, what have the Chinese done to you? Not their fault your status grabbing waifu left you.

Taiwan calls itself 'China'

>Whigs

In what way is it noticeably more liberal or democratic than it was a decade ago? The fact that the current President is heading national direction in a traditionalist (banned the promotion of 'Western ideals' in the classroom, as well as the advocacy of rights for homosexuals etc) and almost reactionary direction?

Have you never heard of the democratic recession? Republican democracies have only worked in Western European countries, proven by the entire fact the democratic recession happen and politics resume their traditional and culturally tailored forms of government only nominally 'Republican democratic' as to appease the United States; see Venezuela, Ukraine, Russia, Thailand, Brazil and South Korea as case studies for this. There's no correlation between the fragmentation of republican democratic institution and a fall in the quality of life or political stability either.

America and China are both republican in that the governments in respectively Washington and Beijing have representatives who grew up in all the provinces representing them there. However, while America elects' its leader based on this system atop a party system, China doesn't. Sure populist elements are possible within the American system, but dubbing it 'democratic populism' is something else altogether.

A one-party oligarchy's system only enables bureaucrats who dogfight through every rung of the ladder to become the leader of the CCP

'Free dumbs' is a reductionist argument. Of course on a superficial level one could draw similarities between this protest and the roaring 60s but the syncretic forces between the different movements vary strongly.

China is divided into two during Tiananmen, and the gear of history moved. Contradiction!

It will move again soon.

China is making huge steps into democracy. Regular people are able to influence party decisions more than ever before. Around 800,000 villages in China vote for more than 2,500,000 village officials which don't necessarily have to be from the CCP and are fairly free elections for the most part.

It'll be interesting how this recent spate into democracy will effect the youth of China's villages and how they could push for more in the coming years.

Also, local delegates and officials are encouraged more and more by the Central Government to enact more parochial laws based on local petitions than ever before and we've seen great examples especially in removing factories where villages don't want them or preventing the government from putting dams in local areas.

Whilst it has been slow, there is definitely a case to argue that China has become more democratic than a decade ago.

I will run over some shart in mart toddlers just for you.

No, the vast majority of chinks have never even heard of him.

meme you, kid

Sorry user but he ded.

He died 1 or 2 years ago

>but no real bloodshed
>South Korea

What?

>Wanting the Chinese people to rule over China
But that's how we got communism you idiot

Communism is actually keeping a leash on Chinese nationalism.

That wouldn't be a problem if the Chinese weren't such horrible people

>le historical facts are based upon nationality meme

No.

>banned the promotion of 'Western ideals' in the classroom,
Already were banned since Maoist times.
>as well as the advocacy of rights for homosexuals
This has not happened

Semper fi, Dog bless
