If it was just Mio and Mayu or just Kaede it might have worked. Hayamin's voice simply doesn't harmonize with their voices.

Not that user, but for me it's not a matter of reach as much as it is moving fast enough to catch everything with just two fingers. I only use thumbs when I'm being lazy and playing easier difficulties.

Admittedly, I'm also pretty bad at the game. So in my case "easier" is up to regular, pro is where I use fingers, and I don't bother with master yet.

Flat surface isn't that big an issue, I just use my lap. It does mean I can't play lying down, though.

Back when I started I used my index fingers because of reach. There were certain songs that would have a middle note but which I would play with my right (dominate) hand. Of course, a note would come from the right side of the screen which in turn caused me to awkwardly move my left hand over my right in order to catch the note. But after awhile of experience, you recognize the layout of each song and become accustomed to using whatever playing style that suits you.

Repetition helps as does increasing the speed.

That's a good pairing.
