Easily replaceable blades. If it a sword it'd just break and you cant use it anymore, this way they can just replace the blade with one of the extra spare ones they have in those 'boxes' they carry. They also carry the exhaust pipes or whatever to power the shit they fly around in

The blades supposedly often get stuck in the hard Titan skin (you never fucking see it happen in the manga though, at least not often enough to matter) so the blades are designed to break off easily since getting stuck on a Titan is pretty much guaranteed death.

The boxes hold extra blades they can snap on to the swords as they need them.

The royal guard uses guns to fight them but then the scout legion uses that tech to create portable explosives that they straight up jam into the neck of titans and then it explodes, not really rocket launchers
