Well to my recollection they really like this girl and Aoi Yuuki voices her, and /fgog/ loves her despite how she's only done this one character so far. So /pg/ gets the socially anxious neet, /fgog/ gets the drunk oni, both of which are heavily sexualized and likable. The overlap between the two doesn't seem so odd.

DR1 is a better mystery than P4 just because everyone is so overdesigned and also present in the story right at the beginning instead of just referenced like Namatame was that it isn't immediately apparent who the culprit is. DR2 just generally had better characters than P4, but once the DR3 disaster hit and then V3 shat the bed hard not just with the ending but with the existence of the astronaut guy P4's time was at an end and I lost interest pretty much completely. It also helped that everywhere I went to talk about it besides /a/ went to hell around the same time.

It's still shit. P4's mystery was shit, DR1's is better, but it's still shit. DR1's mystery is not answered well at all and Chapter 6 is a fucking atrocity - the game just manages to convince you there'll be a decent answer to the mystery for the first five chapters.
At least with P4 the mystery is far from the main draw. DR1's just garbage.
DR2 is plain shit all the way through and the last chapter is fucking terrible for all the same reasons as the first game. At least you're aware DR3 and V3 were garbage.

Don't be like that. DR doesn't lend itself to a meta narrative in the slightest because the themes of the game are never touched upon in the slightest until the last chapter. Until then, the focus is on the different ways someone can die and whatever bullshit excuse the story comes up with for making the culprit murder someone. V3 is absolutely no different from this despite revolving around a theme that needed to be built up to thematically as the game went on, not just through minor foreshadowing for the big tweest.

People love to compare V3 to MGS2 like they're somehow similar when MGS2 is conditioning the player for the ending with every aspect of the game. The maps and dialogue play with expectations the player has from MGS1, and the reactions of Raiden (the player) to the course of events deviating from the simulation do the same, the writing has a lot of conversations that have characters questioning whether or not something is true, and then on top of that it's got the foreshadowing which is generally leaps and bounds above V3's, such as the very first room of the S3 simulation being filled with oil facility equipment that doesn't fucking work. V3 is not remotely on the level of that, instead it seeks to make a point about the players of the series that not only contributes to a very shallow theme about how fiction affects us in the end, but it was a point that isn't even fucking true. It shows that the writer is totally disconnected from the people that play his games.

Atlus have never needed to write some mess like that because they actually understand their audience and the kind of thing they would benefit from hearing. They've taken very different kinds of risks with each Persona, particularly with P5 abandoning the narrative structure of every game they've ever made and trying to adapt a particular kind to a video game format for the first time, and it's managed to come away with better reception each time largely because of this.
