Nero is legitimately the grestest Fate character and by far the most popular. Her character is a tragic yet optimistic inversion of Saber that is far more relatable and fleshed-out: Artoria was a machine king who alienated those around her and collapsed under her own guilt over her failures, legitimate or otherwise. Her arc is coming to terms with her defeat and accepting it. Nero was a kind woman who was a natural emperor that was betrayed because others were flawed. Her issue is not the guilt of failure, but the desire to continue on regardless of others' inability to appreciate her selflessness. Not once does she seek to undo her past because she knows she acted kindly and it was other's fault, she instead struggles with mourning her people's lack of her patronage and the realisation that as a artist she has no purpose without an audience. Compared to Shirou teaching Artoria to feel with his dick, Hakuno being inspired by Nero to realise life has value even as an AI and that they CAN exist is inspiring and far less corny. Their love too is superior.
Her fights are more interesting, her doubts more compelling, her series superior through her presence. Her hatemance with Tamamo should replace Kuro/Illya as THE /u/ pairing by next comiket also, God willing. Even the lore of her ROMA is better.
You can see her popularity exceeds Artoria also based off how successful her gacha was compared to any of hers, and how Sakurai feels no need to make endless rehashes of her to keep interest high. If you look through Pixiv you can see her art is exploding in popularity and is only off the radar because nips cannot agree on how to spell her name - though an EOP would never think to check variations of it, so much like their insane dislike of CCC based off poor summaries their lack of appreciation for her acclaim is understandable.
Nero is what all of Fate has built up to AND is how it should have started. Cool how she brought it full circle, no?
