- somehow maintain a 55% win rate and mid-platinum mmr on out-of-meta champions despite doing this fairly often

Taking CS for yourself only works if you're actually able to 1v9 and get pentakills every teamfight. Otherwise you're shooting yourself in the foot by stealing CS and experience from your mid/ADC.

Taking cs for yourself is always good. If your team like dancing mid and doing clown fiesta and living huge waves die to tower at sidelanes u should just go and take it.
