Roll a blood elf some time. It was night elves, a dwarven spy, and the draenei incident. You don't actually think they cared about Garithos, a de facto leader of a dead state, do you? They were so not bothered that blood elves were Blizzard's first choice of elf on the Alliance in early development. The blood elves that would matter to became loot piñatas. All the actual justification came from TBC.

Garithos was the catalyst. His racism and disregard for the safety of the Blood Elves, who were already in a weakened state with their homeland sacked and magical addiction manifesting, led Kael to make drastic choices, such as consorting with Naga, Illidan, and eventually feeding on Fel magic to sustain his people.
Blood Elves didn't have an allegiance to either faction in WC3 TFT, and neither did the Night Elves. But for WoW, both groups got shoehorned into the 2 faction system they decided to go with for WoW, despite a 3 or 4 faction system making more Lore sense.
I feel guilty for liking velves when I dislike belves but the beards, muscles, and don't give a fuck attitudes man.

I only like the non tentacle hairstyles and the beards are great. Blood elves needed beard and mustache options but only ever got faggy goatees.
I'm a little salt about it, but not enough to sperg out and roll Alliance for it.

I think they talked about it but it wasn't feasible to go with three factions for launch. In an ideal world Vanilla was 3 Horde races, 3 alliance races, and then a 3rd thing (I could genuinely see undead being undead and then two more undead races as a very simple reuse of models) but we live in red and blue land now.
