Was he the first true nationalist?

Was he the first true nationalist?

No.

No.

Yes

Moses was.

Good answer.

>Nationalism
>Shield

When nationalism was a thing, shields were already obsolete.

If you are studying ideological phenomena and are trying to understand the historiography behind something like the concept of nationalism you need to remove your inherently modern perspective from your analyses and understanding of the past. Nobody in Academia takes you seriously when you project your present day perspective onto the past, especially antiquity.

Anyways: No.

The concept of the sovereign nation state and therefore the phenomena of nationalism is a product of the enlightenment and 19th century revolutions. Particularly the French Rev., the Monarchist reactionaries, and the more overlooked 1830s Revs.

You can't assume that a man unifying various Germanic Tribes in the face of Roman conquest is a "nationalist" if they aren't even a state akin to a kingdom. Let alone a region with complex kinship ties and tribalism.

He is hardly the first. Vercongitorix attempted to do the same thing in unifying various Gallic and Celtic tribes in the face of Caesar's conquest of Gaul

Serious answer too. The Bible is literally the first account of someone creating an ethno state.

No, he was

>Complains about applying modern attitudes and beliefs onto historical figures
>Proceeds to apply his modern attitudes and beliefs onto historical figures by purposefully distorting the definitions of words so he can thereby shoehorn only things he doesn't like into a specific category in order to imply that you must either agree 100% with [autistically specific thing he arbitrarily likes] or [horrible thing that no one likes]
