It would be interesting to do an experiment to see how many attempts certain runners have to do from scratch to get a certain time in any given game.

Grindmonkeying could easily be demonstrated to be real, it's just that noone has attempted to do so yet.

Resets don't equal attempts. People reset over stupid shit near the start of their run all the time. That's hardly an attempt. Besides, what you have just described is called speedrunning and it's been a big thing for a while now.

Grind Monkey is also about how you just do attempts and don't make an effort to refine your gameplay with practice or look for optimizations. You don't understand the meme.

Seeing how people like cheese beat 95% of the leaderboards, many of them having 5 digit attempt counts, on any given no reset run, grindmonkeying is definitely real.

Cheese never used to be a grind monkey. He only became one after he got the record. He doesn't practice anything near like how he used to.

You do not understand the meme. If you are a top runner putting in real effort into getting a good run. A high attempt count is a result of that.

It doesn't need to be accurate to an absolute. A reasonable margin of error is expected and can be accounted for by rounding down to the nearest hundred.
