Honestly it's not worth it over +3 attack. She never needs her special to kill anything anyway and she's too slow to really make use of it. Give it to someone like Celica instead, who tries to max both speed and attack.

how do I get into FE:Awakening? I've had so many false starts, play it for about 8hours then stop and forget it for months, restart, rinse, repeat.

There's just too many characters in the game and I don't feel connected to any of them, I wish I just had a small group of 5-8 to keep track of, not dozens and dozens.

The battles are kind of tedious, maps are too big and monsters spawn too far apart.
Pairing up is so broken, I don't think every character should be able to do it, and the AI just isn't smart enough to handle it. Also I like to do side quests and grind a bit and this always makes me overpowered for the main story, so it's kind of boring. I don't grind a lot, really just a bit yet it makes a big difference.

As the story progresses it feels like I'm just watching a movie, I don't get engaged or feel in control like I do with other strategy rpgs, just like a bystander watching shit unfold….

I remember liking FFT, but the story was so much more interesting and I didn't have to manage 6 million NPCs that want to talk all the time and get married.

I know the game is "objectively" good, and I spent money on it, but I can't seem to get into it. Everyone raves about how great it is…but ehhh. I've had 3 false starts, each about 8 hours long.

Any suggestions?

You'll never enjoy FE if that's your mindset. Either limit yourself to only caring about 5-8 of them or stop entirely because a large cast composed of distinct characters is literally one of the founding principles of the series.
