At least it serves as closure for both Max and later Chloe. To wonder things like "what if William didn't die and we never lost contact" they got the answer. While Max probably could have found a way to save William and prevent Chloe's accident, it would have been a plan with a lot of assumptions and guessing, and Max could end up getting hurt as well.
Part of Max having her power is realizing that sometimes it shouldn't be used. Changing massive chunks of the past change those we care about and ourselves. As bad as losing William and experiencing the five years of separation were for Max and Chloe, we know they survive it. It's better to work on improving the future rather than trying to rewrite the past.

It's 'So Hardcore'. A fic that was being written when the game was still coming out and then continued after a very long break and the game was finished. When it was first being written it was plausible to the story but the long break proved nearly everything it ended up doing wrong. For example, Nathan and Frank are the only bad guys and Jefferson is barely mentioned. The ending was pretty unspectacular.
One thing I liked about it was it was the first fic I saw show the idea of what if Max rewound while touching someone.
