I don't see the problem, tbqh. Those characters were always meant for the reboot universe & I doubt Ian wanted to go through the trouble of reintroducing them all again, without the context the nu252 universe gave them.

That's par for the course of the Sonic franchise. I mean we are talking a series where the main characters are called "Sonic" "Tails" "Knuckles" "Shadow" and "Rouge" to name just a few.
