If Irelia doesn't have a Sheen or Darius has some HP, she can't kill him from full before he gets a chance to hit a Q and/or 5 stack. If he survives for 6 seconds and Irelia's W times out, she has no way to match his damage. What is easy for Irelia to do is take one trade with him, sustain up while he can't, then take another and kill him from 60-70% HP.

I will admit that if Darius fights Irelia in his allied creepwave, even with a bramble, he's going to lose.
