I got the game day of and beat it normally and then got the patch which corrupted my save, thus the sub 2 hour play time which was the 2nd time through. The glitch the patch fixed was pic related, every picture in the album was fucked and the very ending had no subtitles.

Well that sounds more promising actually. Though that site doesn't have DT2-2, can find Catherine just fine.

DT2, Shiren, and Oreshika would be my picks.

I wouldn't recommend a vita solely for exclusives though, if you don't have interest in the form factor for multiplats it may not be worth it for you. Lots of genres I only ever play on portable consoles like VNs, DRPGs, and SRPGs. Pretty much anything turn based vs action-y I prefer on portable.

It was mainly due to the xseed fanboys directly sending an email to falcom about the translation.
I played through it myself and it's far from bad. Some awkward grammar at some points, but the biggest issues were just the mistranslations in some names.

The thing that makes me laugh though is that the guy is saying Tokyo Xanadu was a good translation which is horrifyingly wrong.

Does anyone know? PSN lists it at March 31st right now.

If there were only a few issues with it and it were far from bad then NISA wouldn't have had to apologize for it, retranslate everything, redub everything, then delay the patch for all that work into this year.

Haven't played that either. People didn't complain about that too much here so I though it was okay. It's probably serviceable as well, though I don't think most people in vitagen complain about poor translations in general. I don't care too much either, I just need a serviceable translation and original audio to enjoy the game. Spoken Japanese isn't the hardest thing to follow when you have watched anime and played games.

Here a decent portion of my physical collection, these are what I'd consider "must own" titles.
There's many more, be it Japanese imports, Indies, digital only, etc. Just make sure you do your homework because the handheld isn't for everyone.

There were issues with the English dub iirc but I never used them so I wouldn't know. It's just that some translations that were already in english in japanese got mistranslated somehow.
In a 40-ish hour game, people were complaining about the entire script being unreadable and quite literally only sourced the mistakes from here: imgur.com/a/g6f8y

Keep in mind that was taken directly from the falcom subreddit that was chiding people to complain directly to falcom, links and all.

It was legitimately worse than pre-patch Hollow Fragment. It felt like Aksys did zero quality checking after the second chapter, as not only did the text not even make sense in some parts, there were bugs that caused the text itself to move out of the chat bubble, offscreen, or just cut off mid-sentence. Not only that, but they had some untranslated lines and incorrect names too. This is completely ignoring the fact that the end credits had a bug that removed the music. The fact that people were outraged over NISA's 'handling' of Ys 8 but not of Aksys' translation of Tokyo Xanadu just proves that it's just XSEED's dumb fanboys sperging out.

Nisa is a hit and miss, they at least bring the original audio in most cases these days, but they still manage to create bugs and other shitty things to games they publish. And don't then comment anything when people complain about them.

They apparently improved the translation on the PS4, but the Vita version is still terrible and they ignore all complaints about it.
NISA's translation had really odd mistakes, but overall it was alright. People were just overreacting because XSEED lost the title and everybody was laughing at them for a while.

Ignoring complaints seems to be the most common way of handling criticism for these publishers. Well, I guess that's understandable when you get tens or hundreds of these complaints, you can't reply to them all.

If they could have changed up a few awkward sentences, redubbed a few lines, and fixed up some item descriptions they would have been done with it months ago, but that's not the route they took.
The fact that they had to go back and redo absolutely everything, and didn't make their initial timeframe of a month to do the fixes makes me think there was a whole lot more than just those things pointed out there in that imgur album that were wrong with their translation.

Damn that's some hair-splitting. Half those things are fine. The other half is really bad though.

That's because they were asked to by Falcom. The complaints were spammed everywhere using that exact imgur album to recruit people to send Falcom letters of complaint -- it made things out to be bigger than it really was here, so a small patch to fix some things wasn't going to make the "massive amounts of fans who are angry" satisfied in Falcom's eyes.
The reality though is that the translation had some obvious mistakes that were capable of being used to push forward the notion that the entire game was unplayable garbage when it really wasn't. I played through the entire game and outside of the album, it didn't actually have many other issues.
They quite literally took a fine-tooth comb to find these.

Well let me rephrase, I have to stop buying so much in one go. I have a tendency to always buy into things that seem like good deals in the moment and I end up spending a lot on a bunch of games that end up on a back log, I've bought like 9 games within the past two weeks.

I just gotta slow down for a while.

NISA themselves said they'd have the patch out in a month then had to backtrack when that date came they said it'd actually be out in early 2018 and refused to give a hard date to it. Had Falcom requested they redo everything from the get-go then they never would have given out the 1 month date in the first place because there's no way you could rush out that much work that quickly.
I haven't played it yet though so I'll take your word for it that the complaints are overblown, but overblown or not NISA's handling of the whole situation has been an absolute shitshow.
