Tell me about it. I had the sneak perk that allowed me to walk all over them, but I also had to escort a fucking scribe halfway through the entire place just to fuck with a terminal.
It was around the time I took this pic. I planned a full scale assault. Took four knights and Paladin Totally-Not-Danse, and three Vertibirds: One on a bombing run and another with reinforcements to secure the perimeter, and the last one for extraction.

Well entry through the top was out from the very start because the Scribe has no fucking concept of self-preservation or stealth and charged straight into the Gunners' lasers and plasma fire, getting herself killed instantly.

Inevitably I had to take a frontal approach, and that was where I had to quicksave-quickload five fucking times because the scribe kept stepping on the mines wandering around while I was grabbing technical documents.

Yeah those are pretty much the reason I let her live despite being pretty evil now. She's useful and has more personality than most of these characters and she isn't going anywhere or her head will explode.

Any advice for a first playthrough of fallout 2? Should I use unarmed or melee? Or is not using guns a stupid idea?

5. Proctor Ingram.
She is really smart and seems to do most of the work herself. She seems to genuinely like the player, and I like that she's sarcastic back when the player is. She's been through a lot and sticks around, which I think is really cool, and we learn that she looks out for the people under her. I also can't recall her saying anything mean about people like Hancock and Curie, so I like that she's here to stop the instittute but doesn't bully people.

4. Scribe Haylen.
Much like Ingram, she seems to be more invested in discovering technology and exploring the world, rather than some crusade. I never hear her say anything mean about people like Hancock and Curie, and her response to Danse's dilemma really tells a lot about her. She cares about him, the person she knows and loves, and doesn't let something that he can't even control change that. She also seems to actually like the player as well.

3. Sierra Petrovita
She's just on a quest to find places and artifacts related to what she loves. She's a refreshing bit of positivity and innocence in the games.

Which faction does /fog/ think makes the most sense to join from a roleplaying standpoint?

On one hand, given the whole "muh son" storyline, it makes sense to turn down Preston and focus on finding Shaun, eventually joining the railroad partially out of necessity and partially out of "I want to hurt the institute any way I can".

On the other hand, one could rationalize immediately joining the minutemen and using your pre-war military experience to build up an armed force and information network to support your search for Shaun who for all you know could be anywhere.

And then there's the brotherhood of steel, which is the closest thing to an already established military force in the wasteland, with Danse saying you'd "have the Brotherhood at your back... ready to spill its own blood to keep you alive." Which is a pretty attractive offer when you've just woken up alone in an irradiated wasteland with no resources or friends.

Minutemen, they're the first faction you meet, they have a mystical woman who gives you clues to find your missing son, they set up shop in your old neighborhood and help to supply you hope on your coming journey. Through them you seek to rebuild the world.

And then you see your son die in front of you, have to destroy his legacy because of the danger he really does pose to the commonwealth.

And that leads into the greater tragedy of despite all their efforts the SS loses his family. And what the dlcs say about the road the SS is going down.

The Institute, of course.
Brotherhood is 50/50 depending on how the SS feels about the Enclave.

That's impressive. The only thing I have is the perk poster, and most of the colour has come out of it.

Depends how you perceive Nate's time in the military. For me he'd be comfortably inclined to slip into the ranks of the BoS, since being around Danse and some semblance of a military is going to bring back some nostalgia.
