Yeah... Its alright for farming Shore until I think of a proper build, but thats about it. I reckon I could make it work if I had a ton of currency though, but its not very fun

people manage to fuck up even while following guides, so do w/e you feel like, at least read some gearing/defense building guides and be prepared to the fact that most likely not only the first char will suck, but few others as well.

realistically you will just create a retarded bullshit build and end up with a dysfunctional character who struggles with kitava and cant clear maps without dying all the time
there are a billion mechanics and game systems that you have to take into account when making a build because the game is balanced around them. if you just ignore half of them because you dont know about them, your character ends up lacking a bunch of things and you will get punished harder and harder for it the further you go in the game.

which spell are you planning on using?
self cast or totem?
what movement skill?
life build or CI build?
MoM yes or no?
any auras or heralds planned?
eldritch battery memes yes or no?
crit or ele overload?
ailments or controlled destruction?

all those things have to be decided, in a way that makes sense and fits together, BEFORE you start building the character. going back and reversing some decisions is possible, but as a new player you probably wont have the currency to do that.
it becomes even more complex when you start factoring in and building around specific uniques which can severely alter how your character works and are in many cases required to function properly.

just following a decent guide saves you a LOT of frustration and wasted time. once you have a character that can somewhat effectively farm endgame stuff, it becomes a lot easier to experiment or play around with another character since you now have the option to fall back to your main and quickly farm up currency to buy whatever you need.

shit man i dont know, the only good thing you get from elementalist is 25% penetration, which is pretty mediocre when you compare it to the damage nodes some of the other ascendancies get.
elementalist used to be great before the double dipping nerfs, the free prolif and conflux were really good for something like flameblast ignite builds, but now these nodes are complete garbage.

the new guy has no idea about all this shit, so it is virtually impossible for him to make a build that does not suck major balls
better stick to a guide that works and save the whole make-your-own-character part for later when you actually know what you are doing

or, you know, let him have some fun and actually try to get as far as possible on his own

lacerate is great, but for bossing you want conc effect gem switch, and boy does it feel shit using it and you can't switch with starforge to blade flurry the best ST skill in the game, tho most cases you won't care with starforge

You need over 1000 strength to make Doon better than Doryani's. Basically, only way to use Doon is stack strength, and that logically leads you to lowlife SR+RF with Shaper's Touch and Geoffri's Sanctuary or just normal life SR+RF. Pick your poison.
