The lag is because optimization is shit and Frisk's controls are like a permanent ice level and save points don't work because they fucked it up, but in the creator's own words, there's not much to save anyway.

The whole demo is barely an hour and has no combat. You won't need a save point.

They've already created several more loose ends, I would prefer if they just went all the way and continued on.
They could theoretically leave things as they ended in Rebellion for a semi-happy ending, but that would be immensely unsatisfying.

How do you guys feel about the fact that Toby has confirmed that he is NEVER going to make content about Chara because he thinks what they are shouldn't be trivialized, pretty much confirming that Chara is shit and that they aren't the narrator.

The only way I would have accepted Rebellion is if it had a sequel somewhere down the line, as changing the status quo while alluding to an inevitable clash is a really dumb way to finish the story. But it was pretty clear the ending was just to keep the door open, as the next concept movie seemed to have nothing to do with anything and has pretty much been canned since.

I'm mad because it restructured the status quo with the promise of more and completely wasted the original ending, and any further development.

How does Chara being the narrator make them a "good guy"?

There's a follow-up email where he outright says he doesn't want to explain what exactly Chara stands for. I'm not even a big fan of the narrator idea, but I don't see how one follows from the other.

I'd generally prefer if creators only announced things once they're well into actually making the damn thing. It's possible at one point he really was working on it and just ended up dropping it because it didn't work out. Without details, it's hard to tell.

Careful with that line of thinking. Yes, you may be the best interior designer, but someone still had to build the house in the first place for you to decorate.

I'd also add that going in the opposite direction - which certain people on here used to do as the "you can't have fun this way" police - and saying that people can only enjoy the vanilla game / canon is just as bad.

If the original builder did a shoddy job, or you feel that as the resident, adjusting something makes the house more comfortable to live in, there's nothing wrong with making those changes.
If the original builder abandoned the house entirely, then anything goes.

That goes without question, if you feel that adjustments are necessary, everything's fine with that, it's your residence and you can make yourself comfortable as possible, though without breaking down the wall to your next door neighbor, preferably.

But it's a sentiment I see often, not necessarily just here, of how much better game X would have been if you or some person you like were at the helm, when at the end of the day there was nothing preventing anyone from trying. Obviously not talking about AAA level stuff, but it's not like Undertale is anywhere close to that either.

I'm not saying I would have done a better job, because, well... I don't have the skills to make a game.

What I'm saying is that it isn't impossible for fans to build on the original and make a more enjoyable product.
For example, I always call canon Undertale 'vanilla' because like the ice cream, it tastes fine on its own, but adding things like biscuits or chocolate can make it taste even better.

There isnt enough there to be an AU let alone the best Swap AU. It didn't even have designs for most of the main cast

Yeah, they're different than in canon. Asriel and Toriel, for instance, are siblings here. I'm not sure what Asgore is to either of them. And I'm not sure what the relationship between Sans, Gaster and Papyrus is. Considering that Sans seems to still be male, Gaster and him can't both be Papyrus' parents, even if they used to be a couple.

It might be clearer if you know Japanese, though, considering that this is a japanese au.

I guess you're right. There are probably a lot of good swap aus in the fandom. But I personally like this one the best because I find the concepts behind it cute and it avoids a lot of tropes in typical swap aus that I really dislike.

To be fair, it wasn't just Chara. My issue was, that on reddit, even the aus that didn't reach far enough to introduce Chara still had some other character explicitly be the narrator.

I don't like any narrators, regardless of who they are. I prefer to believe that the narration in UT doesn't belong to any specific character.
