The birth control pill was invented in 1960. There had already been societies where the birth rate had dropped before that; the interwar had falling birth rates, with great worry expressed about that during that period. In the 1920s, the US started out at around 3.4 TFR, but this had fallen to 2.5 in 1929, and would fall further in the Great Depression to only slightly above 2. The English demographic transition had occurred in 1880, the TFR dropping from nearly 5 to below replacement levels in the 1930s. France had spent the last nearly two centuries with continually falling birth rates. All of these birth rate declines happened long before the pill was invented. In France's case, it started long before there was anything like modern contraceptives, and yet the birth rate still dropped. If there was no such thing as the pill, the birth rate would still have fallen, and women would still have focused more on careers because they would have achieved the same effect with alternate systems.

More impact might have happened on the sexual revolution, but I'm pretty skeptical that that can all be pinned onto a single invention too.
