Why are the overtime mechanics so bad/annoying?

A game shouldn't be contested in overtime for an infinite amount of time. Overtime should be a mechanic that allows a team to get 1 last chance in to try and grab the point, if it even gets to OT in the first place. It shouldn't just be an infinite amount of time to trickle in and MAYBE get it. And even then if it's the OT and the two teams are duking it out in the point for long enough, the time should tick down to 0 regardless.

I also hate how if you get it to 99% when they're at 0%, you don't just win the round. I mean like for fucks sake you got to 99 fucking percent, it's obvious you won that round, you did it, you held them off the entire time. But nah, gotta let them have one more chance lol :^). It's just so stupid. I'm not even coming at this from a "let me win" kind of standpoint, just a common sense thing.
