This is exactly what I did after a few original buttons broke. It was worth it.
Our local has a bunch of Venom sticks which seem to be almost the same. The buttons are garbage and the stick is ok at best so I would definitely mod it too. Just realized I'm used to curved layouts though, so might have to look for something else.
The input lag from using PS3 legacy mode to play GG on consoles makes my current stick non tournament viable unfortunately.

I plan on getting Guilty Gear soon, yet I have not played any fighting game seriously since, well ever and I'm 31 now. With regards to playerbase, would it be best to get GG on PC or PS4? Thanks.

Yes
Either PC or PS4 is fine. PS4 has a very slightly larger playerbase, but nothing as big as some people meme and you'll also have to pay for PS+ if that's a problem for you. The PC version has about the same native input lag the PS4 has with all the graphics options left at default but can be lowered to almost nothing if you shut off stuff like Vsync/post processing/AA. Most people on here play PC, but the GG discord has people on both PC and PS4.
Thanks for the advice. I leaning strongly towards Johnny as my main. One of the websites with player stats has him ranked surprisingly quite low in terms of popularity. I'd thought he'd be among the most popular.
He's arguably the best character in the game, but he also has fairly tough execution.

Welp, that's exactly what I wanted to avoid by getting a new stick so that one's out of the question then.
He is not unpopular. Luckily scrubs can't even learn SDTH so we don't have to suffer him as much.
