From what modders' historical research have showed it seems being on their home turf is a death sentence and their martial culture is extremely developed. If you're not farming, you're soldiering. You can move them with relative ease and pin down lancers. The real problem is ranged but VC has none. The unit is tailor made to fight VC and chaos.

That's the Tran dynasty, which do a lot of expedition to harsher places like mountain and jungles to colonize, usually done by the royal family members
As a result each noble usually has a elite household army to subdue the tribals and whatever shit come their way during exploring. The royal family is also tightly knitted and incest is encouraged (fuck them up later though), so basically they are a family of very royal conquistadors

That and militias, farm half a year and on duty half a year. They also utilize a bunch of stuff like fire lances, primitive explosives and guerilla warfare

overuse louen early game, buff him with the heaven damsel and get his regen skill asap, bretonnia doesn't get extra upkeep for lords so you can always bring a second or even third lord as reinforcements and just think of them as regular units that cost 300 upkeep
peasant archers are your friend until you can get the good cav like questing knights and grail guardians, after that you drop the peasants and go for all cav army
