Threadly reminder that we're making a collage! Draw your planefu, put effort into it, and we'll add it right in. Absolutely no skill required. If Val could do it, then you surely can. The only rules are: >it must be black and white >it must fly from left to right >you MUST have fun while drawing. It's the most important part!
Josiah Carter
I don't handle depression well, so I've been steering clear from that one since I learnt about it. Didn't know there was plane porn, though.
Ian Hernandez
I'm an absolute nugget when it comes to these things, how bad is it?
Gabriel Taylor
Reposting since I think the OR didn't see it last thread or the thread went down before he saw it. Should I change/add anything or is it fine as-is?
Easton Nguyen
It's by the same guy that wrote Bokurano, so it's pretty harsh.
Kevin Harris
Is the canopy representing something particular again? Because if not a set of smaller, piercing eyes popping up could make it even more eerie.
The rest seemsat the best as you could make it, maybe a small reptile tongue coming out of the gun position would be neat
Jace Walker
>working on really small faces is hard >fucking horses >realize you've been using the wrong brush size after 80% of the drawing is done The polo jousting pic won't be the best thing I've put out, I'm afraid. I tried to do something like this. It's meant to look like a volley of shots went through it. >gun position I don't know where the Su-57's is.
Alexander Lopez
Admittedly I had no idea as well. Best I coud do was sniping for infinity moments in which it's used
Joshua Gomez
>it's hidden If I just draw a hanging tongue it'll look out of place, I'm afraid.
Angel Gomez
Yeah nah scrap that thought

The new head makes it even better. You could add innards, veins, and additional muscles bulging and pressing on the plane's skin. It would make the thing feel even more alive.
Kayden Bennett
Maybe this is a somewhat odd request, but does anyone have hi-res screens of cel animated aircraft? Either shots focusing on the aircraft or shots where the aircraft can be seen but isn't the focus. Scanned cels at a high enough resoultion would also be helpful. For studying purposes. Something like drawing the outline of innards along the fuselage? There isn't much real estate there, but I'll give it a shot. Feel free to redline it, it could help get the point across if I missed it.
Gavin Wood
More or less that. >redlining it Can't right now, I'll do it when I get home.
Caleb Hall
10 days left until Taipei Game Show.
I'll be damned if Bamco doesn't give the release date of AC7.
John Harris
What if they give us the release date of the release date?
>cel animated You mean like cel shaded animation? Or what?
Ryder Wright
>the release date of the release date Well, at least we may rejoice a bit
Andrew Sanders
Actual cel animation, not just cel shading. I have a few scans of Neo Ranga cels that were posted on /m/, but I'd rather have a larger library to work from. I just like cel shading and making a fake screenshot is a pet project of mine.
Thomas Sullivan
>like cel shading Good taste but I don't think I got any. Perhaps check Porco, but I don't know if there are cels from that floating around
Ethan Watson
I've found a couple fantastic ones.
Charles Jenkins
I wish I had the same luck looking for Area 88 ones. It'd be nice to at least have high resolution screens of that.
Cooper Lewis
This one's really neat since it shows clearly what parts would be out of the frame.
Jacob Baker
Well it should be relatively obvious with stuff like that given that they use the paintings as background
>any of the scenes in his makeshift base Such a comfy movie
Didn't bring up Area 88 because I didn't remember if they used that kind of shading or if they went for a different style.
Jacob White
I'm also looking into the shading used in more "static" shots. Mostly to make an eventual "fake screenshot" as legit looking as possible. Both of these are from Patlabor 2, so movie-tier quality. In this shot the aircraft don't move at all, there's just parallax with the background, only the shadow is an actual cel.
Carson Kelly
Where to get area88 cels?!
James Wilson
While in this shot they bank at the end of the shot. There's still some aerographed variation in colour, which is an interesting thing to note. eBay, I guess. I'm looking for scans rather than the cels themselves, though.
Angel Robinson
It also applies to Area 88. Compare this landing shot to the static shot right after it.
Isaiah James
You know as a kid that difference was always kind of offputting, for lack of a better word, because you could tell what was gonna move and what wasn't. I guess I wanted consitency more than anything.
But yeah I like your idea of making some fakes. I've been toying with that idea for a VC plane game with the push pull or so but didn't get too far yet. Kind of like those fake AC7 shots that one guy did with the HUD and all, or that one Starfox one that I don't have on hand right now.
Lucas Gomez
>telling what was going to move All suspense in watching Scooby-Doo as a kid going down the drain. I now understand the reason, but it's still noticeable, much like poorly handled CGI. >fake AC7 screenshots These ultra-wide ones? They're really rad.
Isaac Bell
It was always the doors in cartoons, you knew they didn't go anywhere because they were drawn too well.
>shots Yeah those. No clue why he picked that weird aspect ratio but they look cool. But you know, with trying to replicate their watercolour engine and all.
Just an idea.
Brandon Davis
>replicating CANVAS that was the name of the engine, righ? That would be an interesting think to toy around with. Definitely more complex than cel shading, but the result would be in the "totally worth it" territory.
I don't think I remember any depiction of chrome in anime I've watched. It's understandable, but it'd be interesting to have some examples to take a look at.
Ryan Davis
Yeah I think it was canvas now that you mention it.
>chrome Shit, I'd need that for my plane. Although Gallia would also work with just the regular blue camo pattern. It would be interesting. I think I did some pictures ages ago and I ended up just using a few shades of it to get the effect going in steps with a brighter one in the middle of the wing and darker ones for the LE and TE. Probably not ideal and not meant for it being cel shaded but it worked ok IIRC. Don't have them here I think.
The Skyly would be chrome but they only ever animated those in 3d.

>Shoot down five planes >You're an ace! >Kill a few dozen tanks, SAMs, and APCs on a weekly basis >Average Warthog pilot
Daily reminder that CAS is the patrician mission
Josiah Butler
5 helicopter kills and even warthog pilots can be aces. You just have to let them take off.
Hudson Thomas
hey pilot user, I wanna try drawing planes in an angle like pic related. How do I do it, all attempts I've donehave been pretty shit
Jayden Robinson
One tip I have is to draw a grid, that helps me sometimes. As in draw a line from one wingtip to the other and then one from the tail to the nose and add a bunch of paralell lines to those and then draw your plane on that. Note that the grid works best as a separate layer with some transparency but if you draw on paper you can probably do it with very fine pencil strokes and a ruler.
Other than that it's hard to say because I don't think there is anything special about that angle. What do you have trouble with?
Caleb Sullivan
Have you used that picture as a reference? And I don't mean in the trace through way, but rather just looking at it and trying to match the shapes? That can be a big help, if you get the base structure and posing of the plane from a picture and then start adding more and more details to it.
James Roberts
I'd recommend you take a look at "How to draw" by Scott Robertson (which you can find in /ic/'s pdf/artbook thread) for more details on using grids, as Pilot adviced.
James Martinez

Ethan Thompson
wings, vertical stabilizer alignment and symmetry nope, heard tracing was a bad idea, so I decided to draw block by block I've never tried grids before, how does it fare?
Austin Smith
>wings, vertical stabilizer alignment and symmetry Yeah try the grid thing. It helps with those in my experience. try to look for straight surfaces to check alignment with. For example an an F15 you could use the engines and the nozzles to see if those two lines are paralell.
Jeremiah Peterson
Grids can help, but I usually dislike them because sometimes it leads to varying degrees of complexity and detail based on the square. And keep in mind, your first few drawings will never be perfect, but after a few of them you'll get a certain feel for how aircraft look like and the pictures will start looking better and better.
Gabriel Fisher
>engines I meant to say the intakes.
Jackson Gutierrez
Grids are a way to locate things in space. The book goes into more detail than I could, but the idea is that you use them to know where volumes are in space. You start with an orthonormal referencial that you have put into perspective (set the amount of vanishing points). Then you draw a rectangular prism that contains the aircraft, following it by smaller boxes within the large one that are closer to the actual aircraft. I like sketching the aircraft on the sides of the box as a visual aid. This of course takes a lot of layers and time. I'll post some progress pics when I get to the S65 this week since I'm not good at explaining.
Found out Girls und Panzer is getting a game this year, so i’m looking into that and getting ready for my first programming class to start
Jeremiah Taylor
>spoiler Ooh boi, what language?
Jayden Watson
C++ iirc, which will probably be my grade in the class
Evan Williams
It's nothing too difficult, you'll be fine.
Anthony Wilson
these can help thanks! I already submitted for the collage but I want to draw another one in an angled view for more experience. getting used to drawing human figures and would expand my borders to something more into machinery
Camden Murphy
Just play Panzer Front bis, Ausf. B and Panzer Elite but mod the textures to include animu girls.
And have fun with programming.
Juan Parker
C++ is fine, just keep in mind when you want to program something properly with it and have a special function that needs to done, it's probably already implemented in the language, you'll just have to find it.
Bentley Richardson
>expanding your borders >not working on erasing them That's some good initiative right there. Is is just me or has the collage prompted a few buddies to start drawing?
Jace Morris
Well keep us updated I'm always curious
Yeah I think so. It was a fun idea. Still is but I think the entries have slowed down now so I'll see about making that background soon (tm)
Jason Nguyen
>he wants to draw another Sounds good. I mean, Brady drew four after all.
Noah Thomas
For different people though IIRC.
Tyler Harris
Which ones are Brady's?
Hunter Lee
I drew the Su-30SM for me, but the Spurdo-themed Su-33 is for a former RPG buddy, the S/MTD I drew on behalf of F-15S/MTD user, and the Mirage 2000 is for Mirage Buddy's fallen comrade, with X-29S Guy's help.
Mason Collins
They're the Flankers drawn with the Line tool. The fug one and the one right in front of it.
Bentley Sanders
All the ones that look like they were drawn by only using rulers. Off the top of my head, his handegg Flanker, the Finnish Flanker, The Mirage and the F-15 S/MTD
Isaac Davis
>everyone harping on the line tool I CAN'T HELP IT GUYS, THAT'S WHAT I HAVE TO DO
Leo Edwards
It's fine, it just sprang to mind that it was a distinguishing feature.

Zachary Morris
T'is but a bit of banter my friend
I don't know why it wouldn't be.
Gabriel Hall
The mangaka seems like a major planefag.
Sebastian Carter
And here's the much delayed Polo jousting pic. At least I've finished it before AC7 released it's release date, right? The greys are all over the place because the contrast trick I've used before for a quick lineart gives terrible results in this case, so I haven't applied it.
Also, Brady, is there an angle in particular you'd like me to draw that CFA-44 in?
What could be a good nickname given by his foes to an ace known for pulling cobras outside of the obvious one? I'm considering "Quicksilver" and giving him a chrome livery, but that is "Red Baron"-tier in-your-face. And I'm not sure if that's bad. I'm going to make a mistake at this rate, it's tempting.
Julian Rivera
Nice work. I love it.
Grayson Rivera
Thanks. Can't draw horses consistently at all, though.
Eli Thompson
Good morning, /aceg/. Before I head off- with thanks to Brady for putting it in the OP- Just a reminder about the Buddy Locator:
Go ahead and put a pin down (roughly) where you are if you'd like; it's interesting knowing the sort of global spread we have around here.
Adam Harris
My fuccin sides
Something like this.
Jaxon Nelson
A good picture, on top of that. There weren't any schematics for it, unlike the X-02, right? I've only found this fanmade one.
Evan Murphy
This is the only one I have.

What control surface is the one being extended? It's similar to the one on this Sky Crawlers screenshot, so I'm assuming it's the same. What is it's function? In the movie they're shown (manually) closing at the start of a steep climb and later in the middle of one.
Julian Cruz
The Black Buck operation was really something. Whoever made this plan is probably also in charge of keeping the Aigaion airborne.
Aaron Hernandez
It was a good raid.
Horses are kind of jard too draw anyways from what I hear
Noah Evans
leading edge slat
Anthony Anderson
Ustio is Strangereals switzerland what do you buddies think?
Christopher Johnson
>leading edge slat >allows the aircraft to operate at higher AoA >close it during a steep climb In the second scene it makes sense since he's trying to stall, but that's still a miss.
Brandon Thompson
In SC they are weird in operation but if you want a real life example the Bf 109 has these kind of slats.
They are just meant to extend the wing and their function is the same as on flaps, more wing surface means a lower stall speed. On the 109 they automatically deploy at low speeds and are only held in by air pressure from the forward motion of the plane IIRC.
Airliners and other commercial aircraft also have them but there they are operated hydraulically by the pilots. Usually for landings IIRC.
Daniel Adams
Embrace it.
Jayden Walker
Checks out Directus is a map of Bern and Valais is a canton/state in the Alps
Don't use SC as a reference for any control surface operation. They do random shit half the time.
Jaxon Gutierrez
I'll look up the Bf 109's, I'm intrigued about what sort of mechanisms allow it to be automatic. Is it just an anemometer or something more complex? I wasn't expecting it to be realistic, but the way they focused on that detail for those shots made me wonder if it was an attempt to show off accuracy.
Owen Roberts
Nah I think they just thought it looks cool. Like the shots of the rudder pedals operating like brakes or that tab flying off the throttle. Though I think some similar tabs for WEP existed on throttles, but they flip back if you advance it and dont fly off.
>109 I don't remember for sure but I am pretty confident in that they are basically just mechanically built so that they move forward when speeds are low.
No motors and nothing else, just some weights or arms
Here you go, more than you could ever want to know about slats on the 109
Jason Allen
Well, I've started thanks to that. The people here have helped whenever I needed. How did you start, though? Sides have been compromised. Good work, buddy.
Anthony Flores
one thing I like about 0 is the soundtrack. youtube.com/watch?v=vGjwXI0n5-I The acoustic guitar gives off the feeling of an old western, at least in my opinion.
