Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher. The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3000 units, 900 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep. Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.
>How do I change the fonts? Replace guifont.ttf, guifont_fancy.ttf and guifont_texty.ttf in the game's 'data' folder (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dominions5\data usually).
Wouldn't this mean the soil on which the crops sprouted was nutritionally poor, and thus the harvest would've been poor?
Ethan Lee
Nature magic, bro.
Leo Stewart
>Anons retreating from → >A total of 99 anons dispersed and retreated on their own, 83 of them made it back to friendly territory
Mason Cox
Does the random gen work yet with Dom5?
Zachary Perry
Nationgen, you mean? He's been working on it, apparently.
Isaac Stewart
Growth on MA Asphodel or nah?
James Diaz
Absolutely.
Isaac James
No, because they wouldn't have quickly grown again then.
Brayden Adams
I won't go back to the last thread to find the post number, but to the person asking what advantages LA Pythium has over MA: your enemies have weaker mages, which makes hydras harder to counter.
Noah Ward
Actually for the manikins or just to make more centaurs? Why not go hard death?
Michael Edwards
You're gonna need freespawn, yes.
Ethan King
What, do you want to run out of gold and have nothing? Their freespawn scales off Growth, and it helps slow their innate death. You want the freespawn.
Julian White
You're gonna run out of gold and have nothing anyway. Asphodel popkills at 0.5% per turn per candle.
Thomas Rodriguez
Huh. That's much faster than I thought it was.
Jacob Lee
Asphodel's one of the slow ones.
Dylan Gomez
Do all units of Heat-loving nations suffer in cold or not?
Parker Russell
>when your Dormant Titan SC plan actually saves your ass
Luis Reyes
You always take extra fatigue when fighting outside your preferred temperature, though IIRC heat/cold resistance mitigates that effect.
Lincoln Powell
done that with EA Ulm too.
imo, tho, the windrider meme made Arco full on stop being a bitch early, and any elves finna fight you can get rushed instead if you've got a bless. Feel like going dormant sc might've made you prey instead of predator, even if the comeback fight feels good
Aaron Allen
It counters extreme heat/cold enc penalties, but not cold-blooded.
Nolan Parker
So you're saying that Machakans shouldn't have extra fatigue in Heat 3 but should have fatigue in Cold 1? Because I'm pretty sure that's now how it works
Levi Martinez
You're right, cold-blooded is separate from preferred temperature. You could theoretically have a cold-blooded race that prefers Cold scales, though that would be pretty shitty.
Cooper Bell
It's in the manual, mate.
>Some nations (see Nations list) prefer certain heat or cold settings. They suffer penalties when outside of their preferred environment, just like nations without a preferred temperature setting suffer penalties when the environment has heat/cold scales other than zero.
Joseph Martinez
I was under the impression that scales preference was just tied to income and supplies, not actual fatigue in combat
Jordan Hall
I haven't tried the Wind Riders with a huge bless yet. In this game I've got +4 Def +5 HP, which is good for expansion (or it would've been if I didn't use stupid scripting and get a bunch of Wind Lords killed) but it didn't really work against Elves with a bigger bless.
Caleb Lee
Oops, reply was meant for .
Carter Adams
you were impressed wrong
Carter Clark
It could be the manual is wrong, but I've seen no evidence to support that.
Robert Powell
>IIRC heat/cold resistance mitigates that effect. I've been looking for the formula for this in the manuals, but haven't found any. I'll test it, but if someone knows how this works that'd be great.
Checking the unit's encumbrance, I can see +2 enc where the scales are 2 away from their preferred temperature.
Anthony Allen
How the fuck do you counter turbobless Mictlan, assuming you don't have good sacreds of your own?
William Wright
Kill their commanders or shower them in the power of your magic.
Zachary Green
If he has a big sacred blob, he'll need his H3 priests to effectively bless it. Assassinate them or snipe them off with battlefield spells that can kill squishy units.
Mason Brooks
You get +2 Severe Heat enc at Heat3 on C'tis.
Josiah Campbell
Shit, right. Did some tests with Niefelheim and their units don't seem to mind heat until it's at +3.
Benjamin Baker
Is this a decent Nazca pretender? Should I prioritize propheting a mallqui or get some researchers first?
James Rodriguez
Why are extreme temperature scales so popular?
Oliver Sanders
On a temp neutral nation, Heat or Cold 3 Growth 3 is a minimal reduction in income for a small number of turns, and is ignorable in combat if the shit you use about has any kind of Fire/Cold resist. Although the "Resists don't show up until 3 in a path" change has meant that some nations get kinda screwed by that way more than they used to.
Christian Taylor
>Is this a decent Nazca pretender? No If you're going for Supayas you need a bit more than quickness to make them useful, and if you're not going for supayas you'll probably want a mage bless instead and/or more scales
Due to how seasons work the effect of extreme temp scales will be cancelled out for parts of the year and will not make it any worse for the rest of it, trading temp scales for growth is usually a good tradeoff
Nolan Clark
Because relative to most other scales they don't have a huge impact, and because maxing out a temperature skill isn't as bad as it seems due to seasonal variation. This makes it relatively painless to treat temperature as a dump stat.
For example, if you have neutral temperature scales you still have to deal with non-optimal temperatures half the time (too hot in summer, too cold in winter). If you take max cold it can't get any worse in winter and it actually gets better in summer, so the net loss isn't as big as the UI would tell you.
Bentley Flores
Gold for points without associated bad events or resource capping.
Ryder Ortiz
Temperature scales do have some bad events IIRC. Like heavy snowfall blocking trade and stuff like that.
Camden Hall
Would dropping MR for blood surge be enough? I'm hesitant to drop muh gold scales.
Jonathan Green
Yeah, but compared to Drain or Misfortune, they're fucking nothing.
Jackson Turner
Blood surge and/or one of the magic attack blesses to give them more offensive power would make them substantially more useful
Jack Smith
*trapezes behind you*
Joshua Wright
Well Vanheim I can't seem to find anyone who wants to sub you (being early game with quickness turboblessed spiders on your cap doesn't help I think). Anyone here wants to sub Vanheim? is his situation.
Mason Butler
>Playing one of the weakest early game nations >Pick a fight with one of the strongest on principle
About to get fucked up unnecessarily, how are your games
Thomas Clark
>tfw losing 5 elf thugs in one fight because I went full retard on the scripting
Nathan Rogers
Raise Dead
Lincoln Rogers
I keep underestimating attack rear fliers and I don't like it.
Henry Lewis
What is a good beginner nation? EA/MA/LA?
Andrew Martin
Do pathboost items on communion masters change communion slave fatigue modifiers? For instance, will an E1S1 communion master with earth boots give their E1S1 communion slaves a 100% or 200% modifier when casting earth spells?
Zachary Cooper
>Primordis >EA Popkill Nation made of up magic beings- elementals, mindless oozes, constructs, etc. >Gain lots of magic gems in Fire, Air, Water, Earth, has the same in magic paths >Get freespawn sprites, wisps, terracotta soldiers, and other minor beings >Has special priest spells that grant magic beings extra resistance >Specalize in summoning lots of elementals in combat, elemental evocations, summoning elemental spirit commanders, etc. >Lore is that it's the power of the primordial world trying to destroy civilization and return the world to elemental chaos
Rate this idea.

Jack Phillips
Pretty sure you've posted this before, but I don't hate it.
Caleb Martinez
TC/Ulm/Don't bother
Aiden Garcia
EA Niefelheim, EA Tir Na N'Og, EA Caelum, MA Agartha, MA Ulm, MA C'tis, LA Agartha
These all have easy access to certain basic strategies that can get you a long way and give you a feel for how their paths and most prominent mechanics work.
Colton Myers
Thanks, anons!
Easton Scott
One that looks cool to you. There aren't really any easymode nations so you might as well pick one you'll enjoy playing.
Matthew Murphy
>free shade commander memepill me on the bane venom charm, friends
Carter Evans
Equip a BVC on a stealthy undead, hide said undead either in a high-value enemy province, one of the enemy's main production/research centers, or the enemy's main army, and hope they don't get patrolled out. Laugh as their population dies and their troops get diseased.
Lucas Wilson
Is there any way to undo or send in a correct turn file to lamaserver?
Christian Russell
Just send a new turn, it'll automatically overwrite the old one.
Ayden Russell
Do the turn properly and send the .2h file again. You can't undo, but you can always revise before timer rolls around.
Ryder Sullivan
what nation and build should i do for maximum inbreeded mutts
Juan Reed
Abysia with a freak lord pretender.
Andrew Stewart
Abysia or Pangaea.
Ragha also works, because they're a mix of several other nations.
Camden Phillips
Wait, inbred. Erytheia. Definitely Erytheia.
Julian Hall
You can't control when you put it on and it alerts an enemy that it's happening as soon as you step into one of their provinces, so be prepared for them to know exactly what's going on and likely who's doing it before you're even in place. With that said, try to have a scout network to know where their troops are. Send the dude to a high-pop province away from armies so that you don't get patrolled out. If you're fighting this person in a war, he'll either have to take the income hit or divert troops to patrol out your dude, giving you a troop advantage.
Jose Allen
Hinom and Ashod. Even has jews for your retarded memelord self.
Juan Richardson
Erytheia >marrying close family for generations has made them so inbred their royalty all recruit with insanity Abysia >crossing everything they can get their hands on with demons and producing crippled retard chaff of all shapes and sizes Abysia's probably closest to the 56%er spirit
Nolan Fisher
Also, lolis
Levi Myers
Are you guys still having fun?
Jack Flores
I'm just chillling.
William Reyes
Yeah, I saw that. You keep being the first one to send every single turn but you didn't even kill oceania AI yet.
I wonder what are you doing.
Julian Price
It's turn 35 and I can't keep up with 24h timer, can we have 48h per turn please?
Jaxson Phillips
Curious.
A simple question, what's new for Hinnom in Dom5? Stock Dom4 strategies? Anything new that I should consider?
What's a good bless for them?
Mason Lee
There was a tough indie province in a chokepoint between us, so I left him alone for quite a while so I could expand in peace. At the moment he's shitting out tons of shark tribe shitters so removing him is a pain in the ass, but since I now control the chokepoint he can't really fight back so I'm just taking my time wearing him down.
Adam Scott
Just forge a million of water lens and summon 30 water elementals per battle. AIs can't do anything to counter that since they don't script mages at all.
Brandon Stewart
Admins for 14NationRoyalD5EA and NotAnotherPelywirMA, I'm going to spend the week in a resort with my family. Could I have a 4-day extension?
Levi Jackson
I'm not using my mages against him, since I'm trying to rush some long-term research goals.
Brody Moore
Does it function every turn, even when moving? Can I run an invis BVC boy around plaguing a new province every turn and make my enemy commit multiple patrol groups to box me in if he wants to kill it?
Leo Stewart
Yes.
Jose Clark
Anyone else enjoy browsing generals for games you don't play because you aren't good at them? I lurk in dominions, dwarf fortress, rogue-like/lite, and Grand strategy threads. I used to browse dark souls threads. I don't play any of those games.
Wyatt Lee
Nobody here is good at dominions.
Brody Miller
Just because you're not good at the game doesn't mean you can't play it. I'm shit at grand strategy games and I've still played most Paradox games.
Kevin Sanchez
I've been in domg since dom4 and I haven't played a single MP game. And I basically never play SP because the AI sucks.
Mason James
How to counter Solar Rays as Lemuria?
Grayson Collins
Dare I ask why?
Lucas Cruz
Too much autism in the wrong direction. Anxiety. Fear of failure.
Gavin Cruz
2bh lad I do that a lot for gookclick RTS like AoE2, Supcom FAF and W3 but Dominions multi is so slow that you really only need to study up to get good at it with PBEMs you can go and thoroughly research the nation that's attacking you before you respond, it's super noob-friendly
Jonathan Hill
Once you've done one it's easier to start others Especially on /domg/ nobody will call you out personally for your failures unless someone is doing some serious diplomancy, which in itself is pretty rare in anonymous games
Daniel Bailey
Pretty much the same reasons as me I can't get into playing competitive multiplayer games I'm not into watching streams either, but i love reading and hearing about other peoples' experiences in games
