im an ffxi fag who hasnt touched an mmo since wings of the goddess. Is this game any good? Can not tanks tank and not healers heal? Is the open world content decent? Is summoner really as lame as it looks in the videos?

There's still a holy trinity, plays like a regular Final Fantasy game and with no real encouragement to go out and explore for the sake of exploration. Open world content is meh at best.

Bosses fights are pretty fun and way more visually entertaining.
I know theres always a trinity im asking if any of the not green classes can main heal or any of the not blue classes can tank stuff. My favorite thing to do in FFXI was do stuff lowman stuff with unorthodox compositions

Technically every class in low level dungeons is a glorified DPS, but shit gets wild later on and a Bard tanking is a bad idea.

The game is good, we are just in a bit of a content lull until the end of january.
Summoner is fun desu, but may not be as complicated as FFXI, which applies to all jobs actually.
The only non-healer that can heal to some degree is RDM with Vercure and non-tanks can't really tank bosses if they do higher damage, but it is possible to power through dungeons and easier fights with a dps tanking. But no, they can't really be full-time tank and neither can RDM be full-time heal.
The game is mostly focused on instanced content, open world is barebones.
Bosses are very scripted and have a timeline for their abilities even which doesn't change unless your dps is too high, causing phases to be skipped. But the bigger fights such as trials and raids are visually amazing or just very fun once you get the hang of them. I suggest looking at fights like sophia extreme or sephirot extreme, or even brute justice, if you don't mind spoilers of course.
I feel like I end up monk tanking far more often than I should.
