Apologize.

>good audio doesn't matter, no one notices it anyway!
Oh, they do, they just don't realize they do.
Audio is an integral part of the experience, good audio is what people mean when they name nebulous qualities that they can't expand on such "comfy" or "solid".
You can't have a room without a rug that ties it all together, the rug is not an attraction but rather part of the room's composition.
A rugless room is a sad room, people will know it's sad but they won't be able to put their finger on what exactly is missing.

The point is that your game smells like pee.

how do autotiling with more than 2 tile types?

Good audio wont save a bad game. Bad audio wont ruin a good game.

You'll want to normalize using the audio's RMS which is effectively the "average" volume (not really but I'm not smart enough to give you a more accurate description).

forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=89293
There is a plugin here that does just that and it seems to be pretty effective to me. Just set the desired output to around -20dB for an easy on the ears volume.

Who the fuck thought this was a nice way to display a date.

Wrong

Got into automated testing, feels pretty good. Having to make the code testable really shows you where your architecture is lacking.

Help me figure out if this is funny or not

>good audio wont save a bad game
Worked for LIMBO

Worked for understale and minecraft.

I'm decently new and have only used GMS, I don't really see any 2d game it can't do, so it seems like this guy is writing off all 2d games that exist?

I like it, user. Just make sure the rest of your humor matches.

The whole point of GGJ is to form a team

>a literally who who accomplished absolutely nothing but 142 thousand tweets and 35 thousand vine loops in 7 years
>has pronouns in twitter description
>pic related is a part of over-30 tweet rant
so this... is the power... of /agdg/'s idols

I felt a bit frightened really

its amusing yes

>who the fuck taught you people how to do this and why won't they teach me and how did you do it when i'm so good at so many things
Dude needs to get some research skills.

not hysterical but it made me breath a little air out of my nose

Will be adding a couple more attack moves and combat depth for a while now, started on a parry move, very incomplete atm.

My First Game Jam Winter 2018 is wrapping up in less than 8 hours, there's a bunch of entries already up if that interests anyone else here

>mfw I hear a bfxr sample

progress! my npcs now fight eachother

If your AI can't play the game against itself, you're shit at programming.

It's no worse than programmer art. Remember that Braid had programmer art through most of its development.

It's both amusing and horrifying that people now feel entitled to the ability to make games.

yeah but blow is smart

That melting shader is really nice user. Give me the source code or I'll tell Anita that your game is about killing innocent, democratically elected female mice.

you WOULDN'T

The problem is when the dev thinks that shit is good enough for release, Braid wouldn't be popular if he kept the garbage art.

Looks like it's just decals to me.

>Ristar but 3d.

good idea?

there are a lot of UE4 dissolve materials on youtube

I laughed but I like stupid humor so I might not be the best judge.

...

i wanna buy some rainbow 6 operators so i'm gonna make some music. got a new setup for christmas so i'm gonna test it out. i'll give any genre a try - i can do chiptune all the way up to high quality orchestral shit. $10/min of music

soundcloud.com/cesque
my email's on there, or just message me on soundcloud or something

Farmer boy finally snaps and yells at the demon girl (colorized)

got the main menu working and resolution changes done

>$10 a minute

or I could go buy 30 tracks for $5 from an asset store

That looks like an awful lot of object-oriented code, user. Care to explain?

what's the GAME?

Enjoy having the same music as a zillion asset flips and shitty mobile skinner boxes.

better than getting music from a manchild so he can buy "rainbow 6 operators"

Anyone know what causes this retarded fucking error? I thought that's how you're supposed to declare enums but it's giving me this fucking bullshit and I'm 5 seconds away from grabbing a bat and beating my computer.

What the fuck is a bounding box

its c++ engine

sorry ;_;

The fact that he's a manchild has no bearing on the quality of his art.

its a box that bounds
duh
idk just google it

The beauty (if you can call C++ beautiful) is that you don't have to use everything it offers.

k

Is embedding lua in your game a meme or not?
Lua has a bunch of things that set off my autism.

Is porn the most sure-fire way to make money? I've been planning out a Summertime Saga-esque game for a while now, but I don't know if I should commit to the idea since I would have to hire an artist (The music and coding can be done on my own)

wiki.unrealengine.com/Enums_For_Both_C++_and_BP

This looks different

>3 games a year released in my genre
>worried about people recognizing the music

ayyy

Fucking LOL.

I don't understand what the genre of the game has to do with the music.

...

>I don't understand what the genre of the game has to do with the music.

holy fuck glad I'm not paying you $10 a minute for music then, that's fucking sad

yo VISION is pretty great. make more music like that.. powerful yet gentle, classical but futuristic. they rest is mehh.. but to be fair, I despise chiptunes

I want to rape this bird.

What the fuck makes you think I'm him and why are you deflecting so hard?

>unitybabbies

Another day in the lives of gender freaks.

>multiple responses defending why $10 a minute for music is OK
>why do you think I'm him?!

jesus christ are you funposting from a special ed. school?

thanks! i definitely want to work on more stuff like that, kind of wanted to make it a series but haven't thought about it in a while. plus, more orchestral tracks to balance out all the chiptunes and soundfont tracks

No, I make music too and it takes hours and hours to finish a decent track just a few minutes long.

That's an extremely reasonable rate if you like the music.
You get that he's saying $10 for a minute of music right? Not $10 for a minute of work

How is your trello/hacknplan/todo.txt doing?

So I’ve been continuing to work with different idea’s of how I want to represent the portals to other worlds and I’m really liking this kind of idea. It’s just a quick mockup but basically the walls would be surrounded with a dozen+ portals all looking into a different world. I’d like it if you could just simply “walk in” the portal and the whole world would be setup on the fly but that would be too much for me to logistically handle, so they’ll be separate instances instead.

Worlds wouldn't be available all at once though, so some rooms will be blacked out or blocked or whatever until you complete other levels and get new abilities in order to complete the new rooms. Kind of linear, yeah, but I have plans to unlock them in groups of 3, so each time a group of worlds is unlocked, you can atleast choose which of the 3 you want to go into first.

This tweet thread is priceless. What an absolute dumbass, literally physically crying because no one will hold his hand.

ooh that is neat. maybe add some sort of shimmering or shine coming through

>/agdg/ on hiring artists and musicians

If you really want that Rainbow video game get to shilling on reddit mang

Neurotic is good and your prices are really nice. Unfortunately nothing in your cloud sounds sounds like what I would want for my project. Goodluck though, user, I am sure someone will snag you up!

>being this butthurt that free and paid music is plentiful and there are thousands of other musicians all trying to get into the game industry

music isn't like art or programming, it doesn't take skill or knowledge, that's why it's easy to mass manufactured

>having the doors to your dungeons be cliche monster-mouth entrances while other doors in the game are just regular doors

Yay or nay?

Not sure if samefagging but most of them (I heard 8) are not interesting/generic upbeat. I guess journey was good until the thing comes in at about 40 seconds in, but then after a while it stops being annoying so I don't know.

Yes, everyone that has a different opinion than you is samefagging

thanks a lot!
what type of tracks do you think would flesh it out and add variety? i'd like to show my range but i am never sure what type of music to make to accomplish that (aside from orchestral music, which is probably my next priority)

and also obligatory - final boss is shit

At those prices you can't really expect to have an extreme hard line of quality. It is a situation of 'you get what you pay for and for what he is asking he is giving pretty good quality.

Where's your music?

Of course not but judging by this place reputation and my experience I figured out that sentences like
>your prices are really nice
is kind of strange and samefagging is nothing new here when it comes to simmilar topics

>havent drawn in literal years
>decide to start creating character models
>draw the face (hardest part) right in one go
awwww yissss

Im excited and motivated
this going to be great

How is your game doing?

Hey guys, I've been learning Python for fun in my spare time. I was wondering if it is possible to make a simple game with it?
Say something like a top down RPG.

kek just check any asset store, music is everywhere for dirt cheap because it takes no brain power

>posts random pic instead of his supposed progress
typical animeposter

You are a fucking idiot. Music that many people will buy is obviously going to be cheaper than music commissioned for a specific customer.

pygame

>post ad looking for an artist paid
>get 100+ unsolicited applications from "musicians" begging to do music for the game

nice hobby kiddo, don't quit your day job

Do you post this story in every /agdg/ or

Who are you quoting and why do you assume I am commissioning music?

Unfortunately some of us talk like that

cool~~~~show the second part
uncensored

add a heavy heat distortion effect shader or something similar to the portal images. that would be perfect

>waah don't post your gamedev experience in a gamedev thread

I honestly feel bad for musicians theres a ton of good music out there but theres so many artists, the field is oversaturated
You can even legally use a ton of non copyright free music, which is what Im going to do (with proper credit ofc)

>you have to dig your way upward through clumps of blocks before time runs out
>blocks are invisible until you're right up against them, then they're highlighted
>you can only see what colour they are if you destroy adjacent blocks, or use the flashlight (which burns more time)
>if you're madman enough you can set the game to scroll automatically putting even more pressure on
>or you can putz around in casual single-screen mode

The only real issue is deciding what aesthetic I want to go with. Whether it's retro science fiction, or high-fantasy dungeon crawling, high school for superheroes or wild west cyborg shit or what.
