it hasn't been for a while now, since IG needs triple up to compete
regardless, it's a "noob trap" because when triple up runs out, you're left without any buffs at all and have to start from scratch and the duration can't be extended.
if you get 2/3 extracts, you can just keep extending them by periodically gathering those colors.
