Empires?

Keep standing armies around without them violently overthrowing their monarchs or rendering them into impotence.

Literacy

Roman roads were notorious for being dangerous and uncomfortable to walk on. Most peasants (the overwhelming majority of the empire) preferred to walk alongside the roads instead of on them. And forget about transporting anything over wagon, you'd be lucky if those things could even last 5 miles. Wagons were primitive in the ancient world, compared to the technological advancements made in the middle ages. Roman roads were solely adequate for moving troops, and only then just barely.

As for architecture, there's a reason why every roman temple is now a ruin, whereas Catholic cathedrals have stood for centuries.

Nope.

Change the "without" to "with" and you'd be correct.

Carroballista

When exactly did the standing army turn against the Julio-Claudians? Or the Flavians? Or the Spartans?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's called the Praetorian guard and all the times they assassinated emperors who weren't paying them enough?????????????????????????????

Bingo

yeah judeocentrists bombed all the good shit

Since when are bodyguard units a standing army? It's hardly like medieval polities who shunned standing armies didn't have problems with their own household guards.

Furthermore, Sparta didn't even have them, and I don't see any citations of the two dynasties I mentioned. That makes it a longer eriod without substantial problems than most medieval states existed.
