Ironically, if the xenoarch hadn't stopped in front of medbay from the AI asking him what the hell he was doing, kept moving and parked it in front of engineering there would have been less of a problem.

No engineer had the means to handle that shard safely, at the time, anyway. It was up to him or the cyborgs to put it somewhere safe.

The only engineer was the plasmaman CE, and for one reason or another Plasmamen engineering suits do not offer any rad protection, nor does the advanced hardsuit.

The advanced hardsuit DOES offer quite a bit of rad protection it's just that new-rads are still stupidly overpowered and no one has dared nerf it.
