Large majority of TF2 players have shit taste in maps. Dustbowl and 2fort have been popular since the very start of the game, and despite there being far better maps, somehow are still popular and the iconic pub TF2 experience.

I've always wondered why this is actually With the exception of upward the worst maps in TF2 are always the most popular and it bewilders me. Maps like powerhouse, dustbowl, 2fort, suijin and hightower are absolute shitfests but new players gravitate to them like flies toward shit. I can't deny it myself, My first hundred hours in TF2 were spent in the intel room of 2fort whacking away at a sentry hoping someone would be dumb enough to just waltz into the intel room. The only thing i can think of is maybe these maps are popular because they're good grounds for new players to "experiment" on and learn new things 2fort and hightower have no timers go on forever (powerhouse has the same problem but that's because of poor map design) so newbies can shit around for hours on end. Maps like dustbowl are linear and it's hard to get lost so new players with no idea of strategising can just throw themselves at the point over and over again. The only exception to this that i can think of is suijin which is a bad map people love but i think that can be attributed to the fact that suijin looks nice.
