I'm trying to use the 3do/jaguar Phoenix emulator but can't find a way to play in full screen without distorting the pixels. There doesn't seem any option to integer scale or have some sort of pixel pre scaling with the linear filter like in MAME. It's pretty much either raw unfiltered pixels that look terrible or linear filtered which also look terrible but uniform. There is some shader setting you can select but it doesn't seem to change much. I also tried adjust the renderer mode to the experimental one and played with the sliders to no great effect. This would be a good emulator if I could just get it to display properly.

Just catched /emugen/ here on Veeky Forums in my country .. and I'm wondering.. is there any more emulators with this 'Playstation Vita' theme? Not as good as Dolphin for sure.. but gimme some suggestions. I love portable videogames .. and this theme is sort of portable ..

Why do you keep posting this?

What I want then is for you to piss off from my timeline and no longer appear wherever I am talking, and also to shut your mouth online about me. That is what I want. Also, reimburse the money for that Shield hardware would be a nice gesture back. "I don't like you and have no interest in working with you" - yeah the dude who sent you that hardware whom I had to convince to send it to you because I wanted to show my appreciation for your work would be sure glad to know what the return on his investment was - 'alright, hope he stays'. That is what happens when I take chances on people. Pathetic parasite. If you don't like me and have no interest working with me, then you don't need the toys I hooked you up with either. Reimburse the money already. There is a 'donate' button on the website right there, with several options on how to reimburse it. And no, I don't need the hardware back, I need that money you took from a guy whom 'you don't like'. I can find better contributors that I could hook up with some other gear instead, and unlike you they don't stalk me around either and fling mud in my face.
Go fuck yourself with your sanctimonious bullshit, and BTW, next time I see you entering another thread again where I am around, one of my repos, places where you were unmentioned, and you keep this kind of 'prodding' along, I will report you. That I can assure you. I am about fed up with your constant vitriolic bullshit buddy and now I'm about to do something about it. You are put on notice here. All your posts are going to be deleted, out of sight, out of mind. Your presence is unwanted and undesired from this point on, and I will make sure that you stay gone.

"I'm sorry you feel so victimized"Stop patronizing me dude."I agree these emulator boxes are bad, but is something wrong with their licensing?"Yeah, how about this - they are making money off my hard work without having so much as lifted a single finger on any code. How about that? Should every two-bit, no-name, non-reputation used car salesmen have the right to just exploit code they didn't so much as lift a single finger on, EXPRESSLY AGAINST THE WISHES OF THE AUTHOR?You want to seriously start hiding behind a license here and not want to see how huge a slap in the face this is? So I should feel perfectly content with a few token dollars on a Patreon while these guys rake in some $50K in over a few weeks and I should just sit there and take it and go 'hey that's your license'? Yeah, sounds great dude. Know what, if this is how things are going to go on, then I feel like a massive 'sucker' for not having done the same thing myself all those years ago and denying myself the very same thing all these two-bit used car salesmen are doing, from the perspective of 'oh game publishers/developers wouldn't like that, oh you can't do that'. Well, guess what? Guess that you fucking can, and none of you guys will do a goddamn thing about it, except give the actual authors who work on this crap on a daily basis 'crap' for going 'hey it sure is a crappy thing that some no-talent losers are exploiting crowdfunding to become fly-by night entrepreneurs and make some quick cash off opensource projects'. Yeah, I should totaly shut up and not say anything about it. Spare me the bullshit please."Also please stop calling me Mr. Cifaldi, it's weird."Feel fortunate I even address you with 'Mr.'. There are worse adjectives to be called by. So far you have given me zero indication you are even on our side here.

what does emugen think of images?

I think the stupid nip realized he wasted his money on this shithole, and breaking images is a last ditch effort to get people to buy a pass. Expect him to sell in the near future.

hey just wanted to thank you guys for having a wiki
shame about your dead general

Thanks, Daniel.

Images work for people with passes?

So I've heard. He broke captcha a few months ago. I assume this is attempt number 2.

Do I emulate the original A Link to the Past or the 4 Swords version on GBA? Are there differences in quality between the two (palette, audio, etc)?

First time? Snes for sure. Also the GBA one looks way too washed out in color to compensate for the dark gba screen (as usual with many gba games)

The original, which doesn't have shoe-horned voice clips, dumbed-down puzzles, or a bleached color palette

Alttp gba has a nice extra dungeon, fishing quest, extra move but has voice acting and entire parts from dungeons removed because "too hard". The additions are tied to the multiplayer game (best played on DSi where you can solo it with more levels but NO$GBA displays it with a ton of glitches) so you'll need a save anyways.

It has an official setting to play with OG palette. That's the one thing it has going for it.

My $0.02: get the original snes one patched with pegasus boots direction fix, molduga shell fix, digging minigame fix since those were fixes present in later but flawed versions.
Then as long as no one ported the 4S Palace to the SNES one (like what happened with Yoshi Island levels), get the gba game with voice removal patches, ingame lighting setting to lowest value, and a save file with the MP game cleared, and try the extra content.

>Most emudevs know how to optimize and they do optimize their emulators.
Nope. There's a reason several emulators dont even have a basic dynarec..

> believing every words SP
SP is prolly gullible enough to believe it's difficult to beat the compiler, so I don't take his word for things.

>Hopefully we have coding 'experts' like you who can teach us everything about code inlining
I never claimed to be an 'expert'. I'm merely exposing issues that have yet to be addressed by these open source authors who fail to optimize their code. Honestly, I usually don't like to hate on amateurs, but I hate when they pretend like the task is impossible, when the truth is simply that they don't have the skills to do the job right. They gotta protect their fragile ego's I guess...

Funny how a lot of closed source emulators have better performance than their open source counterparts. Just look at Drastic or no$gba vs desMeMe, ePSXe vs any OSS ps1 emu, Nemu64 vs Mupen64plus, no$sns vs any OSS snes emu, etc. I'm sure CEMU even has better performance than Decaf, but I never tried so I can't say for sure.

...

Dynarecs have trade-offs (reduced accuracy, poor portability, harder to maintain...), it's perfectly valid to focus on accuracy and ignore dynarecs. It doesn't make your emulator "poorly optimized". It would be like saying that any emulator which only has a software renderer is unoptimized. It's not how it works.

>reduced accuracy
only if you suck at coding.

>poor portability
still not a good enough reason to not write one. We all know most end-users are desktop users, so 1 dynarec would benefit the majority of users.

>harder to maintain
boo hoo. If maintenance is "difficult", then it's time to actually get good at coding.

>It doesn't make your emulator "poorly optimized".
Yes it does. Your code ends up executing several times slower.

>it's perfectly valid to focus on accuracy and ignore dynarecs
It's fine to focus on accuracy if that's your #1 goal, but in many cases it's just the author having an obsession with "muh portability", "muh clean code", or just plain incompetent. I'm not going to hate on Recaptcha for not doing dynarecs, since she did a lot of other stuff, but a lot of these other devs have no real excuse.

These open source fanatics are such a joke. They praise the OSS community, when that community can't even create a basic dynarec for Mednafen LOL.

>It would be like saying that any emulator which only has a software renderer is unoptimized.
Not really, since a lot of these consoles do non-standard things with the gpu, so there's sometimes too much overhead in doing the emulation via hardware rendering. ParaLLEl RDP is done on GPU, yet slower (in some cases) than software renderer.

Can you cite me one (1) emulator which has a dynarec that doesn't play fast and loose with accuracy? In theory it's doable but you'd probably end up losing much of the performance of the dynarec, making it somewhat moot. You say that software interpreters are unoptimized, I say that dynarecs are speedhacks for underpowered hardware.

>We all know most end-users are desktop users, so 1 dynarec would benefit the majority of users.

Even within the same architecture there are portability constraints across operating systems and even across versions of the same operating systems.

Furthermore the desktop is where you need a dynarec the least anyway since that's where you have the most power.

>in many cases it's just the author having an obsession with "muh portability", "muh clean code"

Adding "muh" in front of something doesn't make it as compelling an argument as you think it does. Aiming for accuracy and preservation are perfectly valid goals. If you want a fast hacky """optimised""" shitfest you have PCSX-R.

>[Open source strawman]

This has nothing to do with that whatsoever. There are a bunch of open source dynarecs out there for various consoles.

Don't bother, that's our resident emulator coding 'expert'. Anything done by anyone other than him is 'pure shit'. And since he doesn't do anything himself but squeal about other's accomplishment, well...

>If you want a fast hacky """optimised""" shitfest you have PCSX-R.
PCSXR isn't anywhere close to optimized though

You thought the triple quotes were there for decoration?

he really, really needs to adopt a trip so people will stop wasting time with him.

Yes.

I don't think so.

Oh. Well huh.

Images are back I think.

...

Is there much of anything in the way of ps1 support for pcsx2? I've tried a few ps1 emulators and they all feel really old and clunky, and while there's a bunch of problems (persona 2 in my case) running it I can't tell if it's not configured properly or if the support just isn't there at all, since there's practically no discussion of it on their forums

there are no good psx emulators. every single one is either impossible to use or worthless

Are you pretending to be retarded?

PCSX2 is new and clunky I suppose. But no, no PSX support.

If you don't want to play in fancy high-resolution use mednafen or beetle-psx in retroarch in software mode. Very accurate, almost perfect compatibilty, it just works.

>Can you cite me one (1) emulator which has a dynarec that doesn't play fast and loose with accuracy?
nop, but i can say the same for most interpreters. Even Mednafen cuts corners.

>and even across versions of the same operating systems
Is there a real current example of this?

>Furthermore the desktop is where you need a dynarec the least anyway since that's where you have the most power.
Man, we don't even have enough power for accurate N64 emulation w/o dynarecs. You're not wrong that desktops need dynarecs less than other devices though.

>If you want a fast hacky """optimised""" shitfest you have PCSX-R.
just LOL at calling PCSX fast.

>This has nothing to do with that whatsoever
I just felt like pointing out an interesting correlation lol. It's true that closed source emulators are often faster than their open source counterparts, for whatever reasons that may be.

I just think it's sad how these OSS emudevs are put on a pedestal when very few of these people have any significant amount of talent in programming or Reverse Engineering. I'm still laughing at this bogus statement, "Most emudevs know how to optimize".

>And since he doesn't do anything himself but squeal about other's accomplishment, well...
Wrong

>Anything done by anyone other than him is 'pure shit'.
Wrong. Reading comprehension not even once...

What's funny is that you seem to think only 1 person is criticizing emudevs.

>PCSXR isn't anywhere close to optimized though
I was just about to say that too. They don't even cache registers!

I mean of the ones I tried (couldn't begin to fuck with mednafen but if it's the best option I'll give it another look) epsxe at least worked, but having to close the whole thing and re-open it just to change any plugin settings is frustrating, and nothing I did could get the unlock the framelimit to go higher than 120

Beetle PSX. Go away.

>require science degree to understand

how about fuck off cumskin

lmao

I wish I had the /egg/ physician comic

...

Mednafen doesn't have plugin and it just works. You'll only miss fancy graphical enhancements if that's your thing.

There are many consoles which have cycle accurate interpreters out there. It's pretty much mandatory to get anything up to gen 4 working properly. Mednafen PSX's interpreter is not perfectly accurate, it's true, but it's still *vastly* more accurate than any dynarec I know of.

>Is there a real current example of this?

Weren't there issues with Windows 10 when it came out with some dynarecs? I don't remember the details, I could be wrong.

>just LOL at calling PCSX fast.

It's faster than mednafen, so by your definition it's more "optimized". If it sounds like nonsense it's because it is.

>I just felt like pointing out an interesting correlation lol.

You're not pointing out anything, you're just making shit up. What's the correlation between FLOSS and lack of dynarec? There are many open source emulators with dynarecs out there.

Why the low res dithering?

...

>Not liking the low res PSX dithering
Shit taste user.

That doesn't even make sense? Why even bother increasing the IR if you're just going to have crispy pixels all over the screen?

...

I didn't say turn dithering off, you cunt.

I'm not the guy who posted the screenshot but I find that in some games the obvious dithering actually looks better than none/high res dither. It adds a little noise and texture to the simple geometry and shading. These particular screenshots are probably not the best example since the scene is pretty complex and everything is textured but if you play games with very simple geometry and lots of untextured polys I find that the blocky dithering helps.

Of course it's very subjective. Maybe I'm just used to it.

...

Well shit I guess there is still dithering in there. Why does the door and cabinets look so fucked?

The dithering algo of the PSX is (obviously) pretty shit. That's why I think putting it in high-res might not be a great idea. Maybe somebody could work on implementing a better dithering algo as an option, it shouldn't be too hard.

>wrong
Well, show us proof user so we can as well criticize your code.

>What's funny is that you seem to think only 1 person is criticizing emudevs.
Nobody said that. Your writing and obsessive 'gotcha quote 'em all' style as well as your arguments are always the same so it's kinda obvious when you come here to 'teach' people about your favorite topic ;-)

>Why does the door and cabinets look so fucked?
Because they're banded on the texture itself, most likely.
Unless actually enabling 32bit rendering fixes it.
Not really sure why you'd use 16bit unless required for compatibility. Not sure if any games actually do require it.

That's very likely indeed, the PSX wouldn't be able to do this type of shading on its own, especially on the door.

vita emulator when

PS2 emulator made by the RPCS3 devs when?

kill youself, please

It's a shame that nobody in the emulation community managed to emulate Rachel. What's taking so long?

We have ryphecha, basically the same thing.

...

Cool, now is there anything that looks this good fullscreen at 1080p?

...

...

ew

>PS2 emulator made by the RPCS3 devs when?

For what purpose? All PS2 games worth a damn have been ported to PS3 anyway.

...

...

just as the developers intended :^)

The official /emugen/ shader

>not pictured: a vomit inducing amount of animated signal noise

Keep going bb I'm close

can you handle monochrome?

Lewd

hnnnnng

now flatten it to four colors

What, Beetle PSX software has combing artifacts on Bloody Roar 2? Huh?

Run a simple de-interlace shader, or use GL/Vulkan rendering if they work for the game.

Here on PCSX Rearmed.
Oh BR2 runs on interlaced? Thanks, will try that then.

>combing artifacts
That's called interlacing, user. Shit-tier emulators don't bother emulating the interlacing. You can "fix" that with an interlace shader.
