I've watched this (or read manga, or both) before release of dbfc because I wanted to know characters involved beforehand, and liked that show a lot. I wish I could read LNs.

The first part of the series is great, but once it does the dual personality crap it tanks hard.

Not as much as AH3 but fairly often.
It's easy to get into and on the simple side mechanics wise but still pretty fun. If you've waited this long I'd get it on sale or see if you can find a cheap new/used copy though.

As much as I like I & II Chronicles, the Temple of Solomon bit in II is a bit much in terms of map design. That place is labyrinthine.

It's actually okay. You can also start with Oath like said but it's not necessary. For the full canon experience however, you should start with I then II and the rest in whatever order.

I liked it. My only problem with Celceta was that the story was so damn bad they should have skipped completely and just say: Go chart that forest, Adol. The End.

I like the cartography aspect to the quest, that was fun. I guess they felt the need to tack on that story was to maintain canon continuity, since after all Celceta was supposed to be a "recorrected canon" version of Ys IV, effectively retconning Mask of the Sun and Dawn of Ys but still needing to maintain some story and plot aspects of those two.

The writing in Moero Crystal is absolute rubbish.

I don't mind tropey cutesy talk, especially when it involves cute anime girls. But only in moderation. More Crystal has, like, 50 different girls and the dialogue for a lot of them is just the most boring one-dimensional rubbish, filler talk. I get that you can't make 50 characters with deep backstory and meaningful developments, that's just not feasible given the dev and game's scope, and also it's out of place given the game's outwardly playful and non-seriousness. I get that. What I absolutely dislike is that there's too much talking about NOTHING. Like, this one monster musume only ever talks about wanting to sleep and it's painful to listen. Strong characterisation by association with an activity is a valid writing strategy, but you can't just let it end at that and call it a day well done. As a writer, you can't make a character with strong characterisation and no meaningful dialogue to follow up on it. Sorry, I just needed to vent because I was planning on 100%-ing that hellish game but the dialogue (the DIALOGUE of all things) is discouraging me.

tl;dr Even the safe tactic of "cute girls doing cute things" require that you be competent at your job as a writer, Compile Heart.

Seven Pirates had dumb writing, but it wasn't that cringeworthy. Just a bunch of pretty perverted jokes between cute pirates doing cute things and monster girls being really gay. The pet character, despite being the butt of every joke, was sort of half decent too.

Not that user, but yeah that can be an issue as well. I did like it good enough so it's not something like that SAO translation but it is very stiff translation. Well, maybe I've just too used to this stuff already.
