About slots:

Slots on armor now come in 3 varieties, lv1 slots to lv3 slots, with decorations also coming in these 3 different levels. A piece with a lv3 slot and a lv1 slot would be equivalent in potential to a piece with 4 slots in any other MH.

I'm glad the leaked list didn't show any DLC monsters save for Deviljho.

There are not, any weapon without an active element has an element or status that requires Awakening.

Free-Element. Some weapons have Status or Element on their weapons, but are not active unless you have the armor skill Free-Element active.
