The expressions you can have on your Guild Card are so fucking awful, goddamn.
Half of them make your character look super awkward and the other half look like he/she is in terrible pain.

That is what I do but this is my first time playing world. I just bought it. Making new characters is fun and lets you learn the weapon better in my experience.

Plunderblade from Rotten Vale cats. It gets you more mats, so it is the best by default.

Either make a silly one or get a helmet that covers the face.

Does the research level for HR interact with LR at all? Or does it just reset and you do the same thing as LR?
I was disappointed that there were only 3 levels of research and was momentarily excited to see there were 6 but I think it's just effectively a different monster for it

I'm in upgraded HR armor and around 250-260 defense, eating for defense L and I still get booty blasted, am I missing something or is this just the hand of cards I dealt myself?

For scars use a dark brown or very dark red with low transparency.

Kulu just goes around the map snatching what he likes.

How often should I use axe mode for Charge Blade? Should I focus on it mostly when I have phials charged, or just use it whenever I can get a good shot in with it?

You need to dodge everything execpt for the really low damage but fast attacks that are just meant to stagger you like anjas kick.
