Why do the Lucio players have to play Mercy so often?
CSGO might as well have been a new slate for CS from 2013 onwards when it got the arms deal update that added cosmetics to the game. I remember playing CS1.5 but my younger brother and all his friends only got into the game around the time of the arms deal update and even then they didn't start playing a lot until the whole betting shit and twitch drops picked up.
I agree that OWL is only starting and has room to grow but Blizzard have also shown us on multiple occasions that they will fuck up anything related to competitive scenes.

This shit is a disaster. The teams who paid 20 million to get into this and Twitch paying 90 million for a 2 year broadcasting license must feel so ripped off. If it wasn't for contracts like the Twitch thing Blizzard would probably have to pull the plug on this after season 1 ends, but they'll have to drag it's zombie ass alone for at least 2 because Twitch already paid for it.

It doesn't matter how much you market or shill OW, it's only been out for a very short amount of time and is a completely new IP, it'll never live up to the prestige CS has generated for itself longer than some of these OW pros have even been alive.

The history of CS is completely irrelevant here since a large amount of the playerbase weren't even 10 years old when CS1.6 came out. CSGO was a dying game until they added skins which is when it really took off. The "prestige" of CS has absolutely nothing to do with the audience it has. Do you seriously think some 18 year old kid playing CS while drinking his g-fuel and dabbing between rounds thinks about SK winning CPL winter 2003?
