Circlejerking predates Discord by a big margin; IRC, Skipe groups, you name it. Furthermore Discord didn't turn people from helping out, in fact /aesco/ becoming public lowered the barrier for entry

First cup resulted in three slurpers with no goals for Veeky Forums, hardly the best way to debut in a cup.
At least next time in Spring 15 they got a win though and a few goals, but still finished last, the sole win per cup is a consistent trend.
Then we had >Art.
They got a bit of life in the qualifiers, and even managed to promote in Spring 16, however Veeky Forums and Veeky Forums were dogshit that cup so there wasn't much to overcome anyway. They got their ass handed to them by /m/ in their only knockout appearance.
Then in Summer they weren't even the worst losers in the cup, a bit unlucky against /tv/ but other than that pretty forgettable.
Since then all they've done is beaten the fetus bound shitter in every group and losing the rest of their games. There's sometimes periods where they look good like against /mlp/ but otherwise they don't really ever go anywhere, but are rarely so bad that people could even laugh at them or feel bad for them always losing. They have a bit of hope in the future that due to them being a big board due to the cryptocurrency meme in recent months they might get more fans, and players like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH are better for bandwagoners to notice them more and like them than Warren Buffet.

The rules are not clear. The 194 bracket only says no medals, but it doesn't specify whether GK's can be.

It's perfectly clear. The rules say non-medals only. GKs are non-medals so they're fine. If they weren't fine it would say non-medal outfield players.

This just means GKs in the 185 bracket are 189 instead.
